Where does 2 Pet 2:1 NIV say they became false teachers?? They always were false teachers Barrd. Wow.The Barrd said:YOU believe that. I was not convinced.
Those verses speak of men who became false teachers.
2 Pet 3:17 NIV - Falling from your secure position is about how weak or strong your faith is. Also, the lawless one is deceiving us here, but scripture clearly states that believers are no longer condemned as lawless. We are no longer of the antichrist spirit 2 Thess 2:3 NIV, 2 Thess 2:7-9 NIV, Heb 10:17 NIV, 2 Pet 2:7-8 NIV. Our faith can be tested, but the root will always be there James 1:3 NIV.The Barrd said:2Pe 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
James 5:19-20 NIV - The NIV version says "turns the sinner". It is simply saying that sin brings death.The Barrd said:Jas 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Jas 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
James 5:12 NIV - This passage is about judging others. If you say more than yes or no with profane swearing you will be judged Matt 7:1 NIV, Heb 12:23-24 NIV.The Barrd said:Jas 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Heb 6:4-6 NIV. - Are you referring to the repentance that leads to death in Heb 6:1 NIV?The Barrd said:Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Heb 10:26 NIV - Nonbelievers are known to have the knowledge of God, the knowledge of truth, or knowing God but not accepting His salvation Rom 1:18 NIV, Rom 1:25 NIV, Rom 1:28 NIV, 1 Tim 6:20 NIV, 2 Pet 2:20 NIV. It's also ironic being that Jesus tells us in the same chapter that He died for all sins, past present and future Heb 10:10-12 NIV.The Barrd said:Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:38-39 NIV - The author clearly is speaking of two different people here. "But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed". Why? Because we belong to Christ...John 8:34-36 NIV, John 8:44 NIV, Rom 1:6 NIV, Rom 8:9-11 NIV, Rom 14:8 NIV, 2 Cor 10:7 NIV, Gal 2:12 NIV, Gal 3:29 NIV, Gal 5:24 NIV, Gal 6:10 NIV, Heb 10:38-39 NIV, 1 John 2:19 NIV, 1 John 5:12 NIV.The Barrd said:Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
1 Tim 4:1-2 NIV - Apostasy is all over this. Apostates are not born again christians. They are polar opposite in their faith...http://biblehub.com/1_timothy/4-1.htm- 1 Tim 4:1 But the Spirit speaks expressly, that in latter times some shall apostatise from the faith, giving their mind to deceiving spirits and teachings of demonsThe Barrd said:1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron
1 Tim 6:20-21 NIV - "Godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge" is describing apostates. Nonbelievers are known to have the knowledge of God, the knowledge of truth, or knowing God but not accepting His salvation Rom 1:18 NIV, Rom 1:25 NIV, Rom 1:28 NIV, 1 Tim 6:20 NIV, 2 Pet 2:20 NIV. Apostasy is all over this. Apostates are not born again christians. They are polar opposite in their faith...http://biblehub.com/1_timothy/6-21.htmThe Barrd said:1Ti 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
1Ti 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.
1 Tim 6:9-10 NIV - Verse 10 says "some people have wondered from the faith". Wondering from the faith is not departing from faith. They are polar opposite. In 1 Tim 6:10, the word "wondering" in Greek is "apoplanaó" which means to go astray or to be led astray. In 1 Tim 6:21 NIV and 2 Tim 2:18 NIV the word "departed" in Greek is "astocheó:" which means to miss the mark. Going astray and missing the mark are polar opposite. They also use the term "some people".The Barrd said:1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
If that is the case, then all of your sins have not been forgiven. No “saved” person can be condemned for sins that are forgiven Ro. 8:1.And every sin I commit has the potential to send me to hell.
Consider Romans Chapter 7The idea that a person can sin, and because they are "saved" there will be no punishment...that is like spitting on Christ's cross.
2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.ATP said:Where does 2 Pet 2:1 NIV say they became false teachers?? 2Pe 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.ATP said:2 Pet 3:17 NIV - Falling from your secure position is about how weak or strong your faith is. There are so many scriptures to start with, let's start here........The Barrd said:Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Then God lied to us. He says we are no longer condemned...Mark 16:16 NIV, John 3:18 NIV, John 5:28-29 NIV, John 8:11 NIV, John 16:11 NIV, Rom 3:6-8 NIV, Rom 5:16 NIV, Rom 8:1-2 NIV, Rom 8:34 ESV, Col 2:13-15 NIV, 2 Thess 2:11-12 NIV, 2 Pet 2:3 NIV, 1 John 3:21 NIV, Jude 1:4-5 NIVThe Barrd said:It is possible to fall into condemnation.
Heb 10:38-39 NIV And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.The Barrd said:Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
We are such a jaded generation! ATP, have you forgotten that the church was suffering tremendous persecution in those times?
There would have been a tremendous temptation to draw back...but at what a price!
Perhaps we ought to take notice...it may not be long before we also face such persecution. Many of the world's Christians face it every day...
This chapter mentions two things that are a dead give away...condemnation and springs without water. These terms describe nonbelievers.The Barrd said:2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
All throughout the book of James describes temptation, trials, sin and death. Swim downstream Barrd, not upstream.The Barrd said:From my own beloved KJV:
Jas 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
You are a hypocrite telling me to act better with my posts while calling me deluded. I will pray for you.The Barrd said:Okay, let's look at the first verse:
Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Where, my deluded friend, do you see any "repentance that leads to death" here?
ATP said:There are so many scriptures to start with, let's start here........
Heb 10:27 NIV but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. - This entire passage literally describes the wrath of God, but scripture says believers are not appointed to wrath Dan 12:1 NIV, Matt 24:21-22 NIV, John 3:36 NIV, 1 Thess 5:9-10 NIV, Rev 3:10 NIV. Scripture also states that believers are no longer enemies of God, rather we are His children Nahum 1:2 NIV, Rom 5:10 NIV, Rom 8:31 NIV, Rom 11:28 NIV, Col 1:21-22 NIV
One at a time...
Ahh, ATP....I meant no harm. I am concerned for you...you think it is not possible to fall. You think that people can sin...and still expect to go to heaven. This is a dangerous doctrine.ATP said:You are a hypocrite telling me to act better with my posts while calling me deluded. I will pray for you.
Heb 6:1 NIV Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,
