Rudolf Gantenbrink, a brilliant German engineer, created a little robot to climb the Queen's chamber shafts (of the pyramid) and started with the south shaft (approx 8" x 8") to see what was at the end of them. His project started in the early 1990's. I find stuff like this fascinating. I have some pictures below.
Here's the dark shaft that the little robot climbs up in---- it's hundreds of feet long. I was having a little fun with my photoeditor and created a red-eyed demon lurking in the darkness.
Here's the brave little robot called "Upuaut" that the demon sees coming right at him created by Gantenbrink. The camera is in the middle and illuminates the chamber by the two sidelights. There is traction on bottom and top and I believe that was adjustable to grab both the top and bottom of the shaft. However, there were irregularities in the shaft. I remember watching a TV program about this and the little Upuaut got stuck partway up. There was a video and power cable attached to it, and Gentenbrink had to pull it free with the cable. It came crashing down over 100' if I remember correctly, but the little robot was tough and sustained little damage. Now that's good mechanical engineering!
Here's what Gantenbrink found at the "end" with the robot ---- a door with corroded copper fixtures. I remember first seeing that door on the same TV show documentary and it gave me the creeps. It reminded me of two blood stains running down. A few years later, they drilled a hole in the door, inserted a camera, and saw (drum roll)----- another door! To my knowledge, that is as far as they got, and Egyptian authorities do not want any more experiments, let alone tourism there any longer. So...... that's Gantenbrink's door in a nutshell. I wonder how that affects the prophetic dates for those into this stuff?
