Scriptures vs the word

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. - John 1:1.

Did you know the scriptures are different from the word. Scripture is the written word of God and the word of God is the person of Christ.

What we know is everybody can use the scriptures. Scriptures are given for that;
(2 Timothy 3:16)
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: - 2 Timothy 3:16.

What you determine to be written in scripture determines your understanding. There have been movements good and bad, for instance; do you remember the lady who fought for prayer to be removed from school, she was prolific in the scriptures. If you went toe to toe in debate you better be ready. Doesn't make her right but she could quote scripture like no one I'm told. Totall atheist in understanding, literally wrote the book on atheism, which to me is someone who just has a bone to pick, raise a little cane if you will. But that was her roll in life she seemed to think.

Have you heard the saying "no atheists in a fox hole." No disrespect to those that have been in a fox hole in that situation. But it says alot because it is true. If you are getting ready to die and you don't believe there is a God, you will be crying out to God. Please save me, you become the fastest believer ever created for a moment anyway. To me that is extraordinary for a hardest of hearts to melt in the twinkling of an eye. We believe we can out do what God has done and make the mistake to try to disprove of any existence, and make the scriptures out to be something there not, you are asking for trouble.

Foolish!

The word is a person, which is the only thing that can save you. The scriptures cannot save you, but they bring you or tell you who can save you. "Only a fool would say in their heart there is no God." If you are going to quote scripture you need to read them all. You cannot quote the very scripture that would condemn you for ignorance, and use them for an agenda. Foolishness is a harsh reward for ignorance.

Hi Soulman,
My guess is you are speaking about Madalyn Murray O'Hair? All (IMHO) atheist's are intellectually dishonest. They do not look for truth, they only look to tear down and skew scripture to fit their agenda. I do believe she was once the most hated women in America, back in the 60's.

"People loved their sin..." They believe a lie! Foolish is right! They can be smart as whips but that is NOTHING to God, He doesn't care how much you know but how you treat others and how you act as, becoming a Christian. Yes, we are hated and I'm just fine with that as, we were told this would happen. God have mercy on us all!!!

you hit the nail on the head here, the difference is the Word is alive who is WISDOM, that give us understanding of the scriptures. KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING are two different animals. but wisdom ride both animals... Wisdom gives us the ability to UNDERSTAND what is KNOWN or UNKNOWN.

I'm reminded of the devil tempting the son of God. yes, as with the atheist who knew the scriptures, but did not, as the devil, UNDERSTAND the scriptures. that's where the Wisdom of God comes in at. knowing scriptures and understanding scriptures is the key. Proverbs 4:7 "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."
be blessed.

They do not look for truth, they only look to tear down and skew scripture to fit their agenda.
"People loved their sin..." They believe a lie! Foolish is right! They can be smart as whips but that is NOTHING to God
this just show us to be ready at all time to stand for the truth,
2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."
be blessed.

Amen bro,
Yes, knowledge and understanding are two different animals alright! There are some who believe that the memorization of scripture is a benefit. I too used to believe this but, I read something, maybe on here I don't remember but the person had some pretty wise things to say (IMHO)
They said that there is no need for memorization as The Holy Spirit will bring all of it to mind even if you only had read a particular verse even one time, amen! And, He will do that when opportunity arises, amen!
NOT that there is anything wrong with memorizing, lol.

Good post. :)
I will say with regard to MMO'H, she had nothing to do with the SCOTUS case as pertains to school prayer, though she was quick to take credit she did not deserve in that regard. And yes, she could quote scripture but that was because she was raised Catholic. Her hatred for faith stemmed from being spurned by a love interest. Long story not worth rehashing.

MMO'H is dead now. She was kidnapped and then murdered by a former employee of AA,David Roland Waters. Victims kidnapped and also murdered with her were her son Jon Garth Murray and granddaughter, Robin Murray O'Hair.
One wonders if she at all asked God for help in those final moments.
