There are works and then there are works.
If your works are determined by the law then they are mandated and subject to judgement and penalty.
If your works are determined by the spirit of liberty and are given freely, there is no judgement and no penalty.
Jesus did good works. He healed people. He fed people. He taught people. Freely and without the law telling him to do so.
The Pharisees on the other hand who were under the law to do such things, did them begrudgingly or not at all.
Now in this age we are under grace and not under law. Our works that we do come from the heart.
People always getting caught up in the works... I don't know why.
Noah found grace in the face of God, why? because God told him to build an ark and he did.
Abraham found grace in the face of God, why? Because God said leave your country and follow me, and he did.
The bible says these are good works.
Now Noah could of said, not today Lord I dont have to, theres no law says I have to, and he would of perished with the rest of the world.
Abraham could of said, I like my country, I'm comfortable here and I'm staying, in which case he never would of inherited anything.
There are works and then there are works, and so many people get them confused.
If you see someone fall and you help them back up, this is not a law, but it is a good work.
What were the works of the law?
Rom 9:30
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
Rom 9:31
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
Rom 9:32
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
They gave because the law said they had to, not because they wanted to from a sincere heart but because it was mandated of them.
We are in the age of Grace meaning God is being very lenient and forgiving in this time.
This is our time of opportunity to show forth God's works through us by being loving and caring and prayerful and helping.
From a sincere and willing heart not because we are under a law to do so.
Even if there is a law that says you shall do this or that, if you do it begrudgingly it has no reward.
But if you do it from a sincere and willing heart then there is a reward. Most times it's just a good feeling knowing you helped another.
But in this present time we are under no such laws that are mandated to love one another, or help one another.
There is no death penalty if you walk by a fallen person and dont help them up.
But then you will have to deal with your conscience if you have one. And you will lose the reward of the satisfaction of doing a good deed.
Works that are under the laws of Moses are those that are mandated. No faith or love or mercy required. Just do them because you are told you have to.
Works that are under the law of liberty are unmandated. Faith, love, mercy, compassion are required and it comes from the heart and a willingness to do so.
This argument of works is getting old folks.
We should be past this by now.
Just sayin..
