Jesus said in Luke 5:36-39 36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.”

The new wine Jesus is talking about here is the New Living Testament that a man (bottle) can only receive by the Spirit when he is made a new man in Christ (new bottle).

This “new wine” or the “New Living Testament” is not written outwardly on paper or stone, but is written inwardly on our hearts and minds by the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:3
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, “but with the Spirit of the living God”; not in tables of stone, “but in fleshy tables of the heart.”

This testimony of Jesus Christ by the Spirit cannot be understood by the old natural man (old bottle) neither can it be received and retained.

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Thus not being able to receive (understand) the new wine, the old bottles (natural man) will perish.

If a man is born again of the Holy Spirit, he is made a “new bottle”( new man in Christ) and therefore is able to receive and retain the “New wine” ( the Testimony of Jesus Christ) by the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is anew creature (new bottle) old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

You must be born again and be made a new bottle in order to receive and retain the New wine.

Peace and God bless

Lord Jesus was using the idea of newly fermenting wine that must have room to expand to represent the "mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven" that His disciples were given. He used the old bottles idea to represent the old traditions of John's disciples and of the Pharisees.

Luke 5:33-39
33 And they said unto Him, "Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but Thine eat and drink?"

34 And He said unto them, "Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days."

While Jesus (the Bridegroom) was with His disciples (children of the bridechamber), they were to have... the "new wine", and not fast. But when Jesus was delivered up to be crucified, then they would fast, all in the spiritual sense.

36 And He spake also a parable unto them; "No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved."

They didn't use glass bottles to put the wine in back then; they used wine skins. If you put newly fermenting wine that needs room to expand into an old dried up wine skin, it will break. You instead put the new wine in new wine skins, so both are preserved.

So who does the old wine skin represent in the parable?

It's those who remain on the 'milk' of God's Word and never get around to the "strong meat" of God's Word (Hebrews 5). Those who'd rather remain on the 'milk' because its comfortable is what Jesus pointed to in this next verse...

"kainous" means that the wine skin is fresh in the case of a new wineskin or has been made fresh once more if it is an old used wineskin, because even a new unused wineskin can become hard and brittle and will burst if you put "neo" wine into it.

In other words, the old wineskins are refurbished to be able to be used and become like "new" again.

The parable reminds me of what Paul wrote, who frequently said that the saints must renew their minds so that they can put on the refreshed/refurbished personhood that God has intended man to be/become from the beginning of time.

The old wine skins was the old law of Moses and the new wine is the age of Grace. Hince the old and new do not mix together.

What a wonderful load of that brown stuff since you have no understanding of the Greek Root words "neos" and "kainos."

"Neos" is applicable with respect to its age while "kainos" is applicable with respect to the freshness of the article, i.e., "made like new again."

Did not Jesus tell us that the Old Testament Laws could be encompassed within two understandings and that these were still applicable to how a disciple lived in relationship with Him.

Perhaps you need to apply more of your laughing matter when contemplating scripture when attempting to understand what has been recorded in the scriptures.
