And there's another false doctrine FRAGMENT from men ADDED to The Word of God by the deceived and deceivers, the FALSE idea that the "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT..." of Revelation 17 represents the Roman Church.
The very last verse of Revelation 17 reveals what that "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT..." is...
Rev 17:18
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
KJV
Where is that "great city" it speaks of, Rome?? Nope!
Rev 11:7-8
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
KJV
Well, that is JERUSALEM where our Lord Jesus was crucified!
That is where you and many people here are wrong about the "great city." When someone reads this, they automatically think it must be a literal or physical city like Rome, Jerusalem (70AD or modern city), or New York City to build a doctrine upon—especially trying to insert two individual men as two witnesses there. Nope! None of this is biblically true.
The Two Witnesses of Revelation 11 are born again Christians who received power with the Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel to the world. The church (woman) is a SPIRITUALLY great city, the home of Two Witnesses that expands with them wherever they go in the World. Not about a physical city at all.
When we allow Scripture to interpret Scripture, we see the church is often represented as the great city of Jersulaem throughout the Bible. The "Great City Jersualem" becomes that "Great City Babylon" that dwells WITHIN the world as it apostatizes turning away from the Words of God to the Words of man. That is a city WITHOUT light where it is now ruled by "lawless man," or as the Church as come to read it, "the man of sin."
Matthew 5:14
- "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."
Selah.
