We could have a discussion, but maybe we *shouldn't?* Foretelling the date of Christ's Return never stops, and was something that Jesus never advocated for. By contrast he told us that times and seasons are the prerogative of God, and that trying to set dates actually distracts us from our present mission.
Nothing wrong with seeing his Coming as near. But the very book of the Bible that speaks of the nearness of his Coming was written 2000 years ago! What does that tell you about "nearness?"
At the time, Jesus said the Jewish temple was about to be destroyed by the Romans, and that the unbelieving Jews were oblivious to this. Therefore, it was imperative to warn them about the nearness of judgment, that his Coming, in a sense, would be more immediately fulfilled in a preliminary, non-eschatological judgment.
In our day, we should be concerned about events of our time, and how they can negatively impact us. It's important to encourage our contemporaries to seek "spiritual designs," so that even in tough times they will have hope in a future resurrection and in the presence of God already available to us, through faith in him.
That being said, I think there is some value in seeing how current events fit into the approach towards the Antichristian Kingdom. We were warned that it is coming, and we were warned to discern this development and to reject all antichrists, in whatever time or place they appear. It is exciting to contemplate the fact we are so close to the end. But we need to keep a perspective, amen?
