I was watching X-Men and the scene where Magneto draws the iron out of the guard to break out of prison. And also thinking about how when I had back pain, the doctor wanted me to have some back pain therapy with very strong magnetic fields. I told her that I studied physics and didn't think strong electric or magnetic fields were good for the body or nervous system electrically. She seemed to get upset with me for countering and rejecting her idea.

So I did some research on the matter of hollistic healing using strong rare earth magnets. I wondered if the iron in your blood could effect the flow of iron rich red blood cells and cause clotting which could be disasterous. And I found the following:

"Exposure of guinea pigs to homogeneous magnetic fields as low as 0.005 T for 1 hour, 7 days a week, for 6 weeks led to a decreased platelet count; increased platelet aggregation; increased prothrombin and partial thromboplastin times; decreased fibrinogen and increased fibrinolysis." The effect of magnetic fields on platelets, blood coagulation and fibrinolysis in guinea pigs - PubMed

Thrombosis - StatPearls - NCBI Bookshelf.

Now the guinea pigs exposed to 0.005 T for 1 hour, 7 days a week for 6 weeks sounded like it could cause blood clots.

Now I have worked with strong magnetic fields in some of my physics research and I know that rare earth magnets have a strength of about 1.0 T. Rare-earth magnet - Wikipedia

And apparently people are using these rare earth magnets to try and heal themselves: Using Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets For Magnetic Therapy

So I'm wondering if anyone knows if they use strong static magnetic fields in medicine?
