Luke 1:5 THERE was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Zacharias and Elisabeth walked in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord and were said to be blameless and righteous as a result. They were justified by works in that they were obedient to the law in the covenant (James 2:22); they were not justified unto eternal life. They were not said to be sinless.
Israel was given the law and the commandments for righteousness. Righteousness should have been by the law (Galatians 3:21).
Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
It was required of Israel to be righteous to enter the prophetic Davidic kingdom on earth (Daniel 2:44).
Israel in seeking for the kingdom found their righteousness in the Lord (Matthew 6:33 Isiah 64:6 James 2:23 Revelation 7:14)
[Luke 24:46-49 KJV] 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Christ commanded his disciples to preach repentance and remission of sins in his name. They were to preach to all nations which I think was to be accomplished in the tribulation. They would be given power.
[Acts 1:8 KJV] 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Their power would come from the Holy Ghost upon them to go all nations. This was seen at Pentecost (Acts 2:4).
Ezekiel 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
The Spirit of God will cause Israel to do all that was commanded to be righteous in the kingdom on earth.
