Amen, I've often thought that the complete gospel could stand alone on just this scripture.
@Waiting on him The content seems to have so many aspects of truth: The relationship between Father and Son; the wondrous provision for the sinner, the sure hope of the believer. So many angles can be explored in meditation. In Christian families, it's probable that so many young people have learned this verse by heart and even if they then go their own way for many years, yet if they have at any time memorized this wonderful verse the Spirit of God can take up the verse and apply it to the conscience and heart; to this end we can indeed pray.

I agree. God send His agent--His own Son--into our fallen world so as to help restore us to God. To do so he had to endure this fallen world, and its punishments. But God's love is such that He wanted to recover us, seeing that there was yet hope for us. To save us he dealt with our sin legally, by the standards of God Himself. And he was, in fact, God reaching down to us in the form of man, suffering innocently just to rescue us.

First thanks for the reply, second, our Lord Jesus the Son is not the, "shaliah" for God. he is God himself. this is a false theory of the Unitarian. the Son is God's own "RIGHT ARM". meaning God himself "diversified" in flesh. supportive scripture, Isaiah 63:5 "And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me."
God's OWN ARM is he himself in flesh. so he's no "shaliah" or any agent for God, but is God. supportive scripture, Isaiah 35:4 "Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you." and there is ONLY "ONE" God, and that one God came.

there is a lot of verses to this effect. such as who sent the Holy Spirit? the Father or the Son? and it was not both of them.

On another thread I was asked to talk about wholesome Scripture verses that I have seen in ppl's tattoos: well, I have repeatedly indeed had conversations about John 3.16 in this context. The verse does indeed seem to encapsulate the Gospel; and I can understand how there is the desire to display it in different ways. Stainer's Crucifixion - written in the 19th century - has a memorable section based on John 3.16; the tune is memorable also and it complements the way in which the wording stays in the mind.
Whoever believes to where Jesus is (in Zion) ...has the same life He does...the eternal kind. Deep theology indeed. :)
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 is a similar scripture that presents the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ in a nutshell.
