Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

This verse is often used in the context of proclaiming the gospel of salvation, the "Roman's road", but in the context of Romans 10 it is best viewed as being directed to Israel.

The subject of Romans 10 is the salvation of Israel (Romans 10:1).

While Paul acknowledges the church calling upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians 1:2 he does so in a descriptive sense and in accord with Psalm 145:18; his citations of calling upon the Lord found in Romans 10 are strictly in regard to the believing remnant of Israel.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

Peter was speaking to Israel in verse 14. Peter said in verse 16 that this occurrence was according to the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-29). Peter quoted Joel 2:32 in Acts 2:21 in saying "whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved".

Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

In Joel it can be read that "whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered", which means they would be delivered to enter the Davidic kingdom on earth (Isaiah 2:2-3 Psalm 22:28 Luke 1:32). In Joel 2:32, calling on the name of the Lord is speaking in regard to the believing remnant of Israel.

Chapters 9, 10 and 11 of Romans are dealing with the salvation of Israel. The verses below in Romans further substantiate that Paul was speaking of the believing remnant of Israel and how calling on the Lord should therefore be viewed in this light.

Romans 10:19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

Romans 9:24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
9:25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
9:26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
9:27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

Israel, as can be seen in the above verses, would be provoked to jealousy by a foolish nation who are not a people (Deuteronomy 32:21 Romans 10:19); this foolish nation is the believing remnant of Israel comprised of both Jew and Gentile (Romans 10:12); the people who were not a people, but called the children of God, the people of God (Hosea 1:10 Hosea 2:23 1 Peter 2:9-10).

Clearly, Romans 10:13 in speaking of calling on the name of the Lord is best applied to Israel.

FAQ: Did Jesus ever instruct anyone to pray to himself?

REPLY: Yes.

Matt 11:28-29 . . Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I
will give you rest.

John 4:10-14 . .If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for
a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living
water.

John 7:37 . . On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and
said in a loud voice: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.

When Jesus says "come" and/or "ask" he expects his audiences to
reciprocate with an RSVP.

John 5:39 . . .You diligently study the scriptures because you think that by
them you possess eternal life. These are the scriptures that testify about
me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

NOTE: Prayer can be thought of as rapport: defined as a friendly relationship
marked by ready communication and mutual understanding. It remains a
mystery to me how it happens that card-carrying Christians like those
described by Matt 7:22-23 fail to cultivate a personal association with the
one man in Christianity that matters most.

In the letter to Hebrews, Jesus is portrayed as the new covenant's high
priest. Now it would be a fine kettle of fish if I was never permitted to
communicate with the one man in Heaven that I'm confident has God's ear.

I have inoperable end-stage esophageal cancer. Radiation and chemo have
slowed it down, but haven't stopped it. When I complete my walk thru the
valley of the shadow of death, I hope to have enough presence of mind
remaining to speak up the same as Stephen did in his last moments.

Acts 7:59-60 . .While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed: Lord Jesus,
receive my spirit.

[Rom 8:35-39 KJV] 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

[Rom 8:18 KJV] 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

No, clearly Romans 10:13 in the context of the immediately preceding verse says there is no distinction between the believing remnant of Israel and the believing Gentiles. We, you, me, and they, are all one body of Christ.

Gentiles could always come to God but they had to go thru Israel as seen in Acts 10:45..........they were blessed to be included in the remnant of Israel not the body of Christ

This is complete nonsense. It clearly applies to both Jews and Gentiles. You quoted Romans 9:24, but did you even read it? That verse alone refutes everything you're saying. It shows that God calls not "the Jews only, but also...the Gentiles".

I said this about Romans 9:24............... the believing remnant of Israel comprised of both Jew and Gentile (Romans 10:12);...............[Rom 10:12 KJV] 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Notice "Whosoever".

See that?

"Whosoever shall call".

Notice that it does not say....."If Jews call", or "if the Elect call".... and the reason it doesn't is because "Whosoever calls" and "whosoever believes" and "All who call on the Name of the Lord"......is talking to everyone......worldwide.........or as John 3:16 says.....>>>"For God so loved the WORLD (everyone) """.... that Whosoever calls... ALL who call......ALL who will believe...........not just jews.

And currently, the world is found in "the time of the GENTILES"... and Paul is the """ Apostle to the GENTILES"/.... who wrote "Romans".

The Gentiles believed in Acts 10:45
John 3:16 was to Israel to believe on his name

The Gentiles believed in Acts 10:45
John 3:16 was to Israel to believe on his name
But we do read of Gentiles who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ before Acts 10. An example is the centurion whose servant was ill. Jesus said of him:

“Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (Mt 8:10 NKJV)

I keep forgetting that I'm never going to talk someone out of their doctrine, so I might as well try to understand this strange interpretive matrix.

Could you please define what you mean by "Israel is called to 'believe on his name'", and contrast it with what you believe the Church is called to do?
To believe on his name was to believe Jesus is Christ the Son of God (John 20:31)

We are to believe that as well but we have to believe he was delivered for our offences and raised for our justification

romans is written to gentile christians in Rome. and is directed to them

romans 9 is answering questions many gentiles probably had of God calling a nation that failed.

romans 10 is not just for Israel. God does not have a separate gospel for Israel than he has for Gentiles. the gospel from adam until today is this way, whoever calls on the name of the lord will be saved

Yes but in Romans 9 thru 11 he is talking about Israel
and gentiles..

romans 9
25 As He says also in Hosea:

“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”

26 “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,
You are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.”

and chapter 10, yes he says Israel needs the gospel.. the gospel is for all..including the people in chapter 9: 25 (gentiles)

And in context of chapter ten. it is clear it is both jew and greek (gentile)

rom 10: 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
