Explain your understanding of the context of each verse.
It usually means the One Church centered in Rome.
All of them are closer than Rome. Those roads that lead to Rome lead away from truth. Just sayin.Which denomination have you determined is closer to teaching the truth?
Who is the bishop?Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be; even as where Jesus may be, there is
the universal Church.
- St. Ignatius of Antioch
"History is a pack of lies agreed upon"-- Napoleon BonaparteIt is a historical fact other denominations branched off from the Church.
Your bevy of questions suggests a not so wholly pure motive. Thank you for participating. :)Which denomination have you determined is closer to teaching the truth?
Ignatius was one of the Early Church Fathers (ECF). He said many true things, but he also believe some false things. It appears that very soon after the apostles, one man was being appointed bishop over the elders, deacons, and Christians. Here is what Ignatius wrote:And who is Ignatius of Antioch that I should hear him?
Sorry you cannot escape it they preach there doctrines everywhere,I answered the question in the Original post... YOU are the one who has approached me. I did not realize this was a Catholic thread.
So many angry people/I was not preaching. You should have read our entire conversation before you commented on it.
It was a rhetorical question, but thanks for the info. :)Ignatius was one of the Early Church Fathers (ECF). He said many true things, but he also believe some false things. It appears that very soon after the apostles, one man was being appointed bishop over the elders, deacons, and Christians. Here is what Ignatius wrote:
"See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop."
However, in the New Testament the presbyters (or elders) were also called bishops, and they were a body called the presbytery. A presbyter was a pastor (poimen)/elder (presbuteros) /bishop (episkopos), but there was always a plurality of elders, with Christ as the Bishop over them and the churches.
I don't need to learn it. I know it exactly.Learn the history of your denomination. See how far back it goes.
*just jumping in here for my view*Then you know your denomination ultimately branched off the Catholic Church which traces back to Jesus. Therefore, why would the Catholic Church not be closer to teaching the truth?
