David is there in the scriptures because his life experiences are so illustrative of what happens when a good man allows our sinful tendencies to overtake him, even when he had a good heart. It demonstrates God’s forgiveness when we are truly repentant, but it also demonstrates that God will not shield us from the consequences of our own actions. David's life was never the same again.
David’s power as king corrupted his heart, so we have real life examples in the Bible of how power can be abused and why power over others was never given to man originally, for that reason. God allowed David to be humbled and to express his regret. If God had not personally handled the sins of David with Bathsheba, he would have been put to death, but since he was to figure in the coming of the Messiah, God forgave him. In fact, Solomon (the wisest man on earth in his time) was the son of David and Bathsheba, so the Messianic line still came from David through the woman that he had taken in adultery, proving that God’s forgiveness was justified, and David’s repentance complete and genuine.
What I am seeing on this thread is a lack of balance. God says to hate the sin, not the sinner.....remember “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”? The first sinner we need to look at is ourselves...who can stand before God and declare themselves sinless?
The apostle Paul gave us the balance.....
Ephesians 5:3-5...
“Let sexual immorality and every sort of uncleanness or greediness not even be mentioned among you, just as is proper for holy people; 4 neither shameful conduct nor foolish talking nor obscene jesting—things that are not befitting—but rather the giving of thanks. 5 For you know this, recognizing it for yourselves, that no sexually immoral person or unclean person or greedy person, which means being an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of the Christ and of God.”
So even the ‘dirty jokes’ are not funny to God.....he would prefer that we keep our minds on wholesome things, not dwelling on subjects like this because he is going to deal with it in his due time. We are not the judge of these people and science is finding a somewhat common cause for its prevalence in this particular time period. Its always been there, but nowadays it seems to be exploding at an alarming rate.
This may explain why......drugs called "endocrine disruptors" might be the reason...
"The so-called endocrine disruptors have been described as compounds which interfere with the estrogen action in their receptors and may exert a crucial role in the development of the reproductive tract and in the brain sexual differentiation. Thus, conducts and/or exposure to these drugs in the perinatal period that apparently do not endanger the neonate may cause side effects. During embrionary development, the gonads, through discharge of a small quantity of reproductive hormones, will guarantee the phenotype of male or female at birth, as well as actuate in specific areas sexual differentiation of the central nervous system. Several experimental models have shown an interference of drugs acting as endocrine disruptors in hypothalamic sexual differentiation. Thus, reproductive function is impaired by exposure to estrogen in the perinatal life of rats and the mechanisms involved in this effect are distinct for males and females. Perinatal exposure to drugs which may be considered endocrine disrupters may induce an incomplete masculinization and defeminization of the central nervous system. Alterations in these processes, if present, generally are perceived only at puberty or adult reproductive life. These later alterations may include anomalies in the process of fertility or in sexual behavior."
Endocrine Disruptors and Hypothalamic Sexual Differentiation
Do we imagine that God has been putting up with this sexual sin for no reason? The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were so out of control that wiped them off the face of the earth, leaving us an example of how detestable sexual sin is in it’s most depraved expressions. Before that we had the activities of those in Noah's day and it caused God to wipe out the entire generation of that time.
But God allows people to make their choices and those true of heart will make the right ones for the right reasons....but NOT because someone told them how disgusting they are. You have to love people into the truth, not judge them out of it.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11....
“Or do you not know that unrighteous people will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Do not be misled. Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who submit to homosexual acts, men who practice homosexuality, 10 thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God’s Kingdom. 11 And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean; you have been sanctified; you have been declared righteous in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.”
We are all tested as to our willingness to put aside our personal preferences in all things, and to accept God’s truth. For some, the sacrifice is greater than for others. Sex has always been a problem for sinful man because it has to do with the transmission of life....something sacred to Jehovah. But sexual sin is only one of many.....can we rightly point fingers at others when we ourselves are carrying on conduct which is out of step with God ourselves? Will God judge them and not us the same way?
