A question to reflect on. This is on my mind today. Years ago when I was seeking counsel for anxiety and panic attacks and fear, I shared with the counselor how I had built a cage and imprisoned myself and now I could not get free from the cage. The counselor asked me “who opens the door to the cage?” At the time I wasn’t reading the word and couldn’t remember a single verse …no matter how many times the counselor quoted to me “perfect love cast out fear”. Every session I couldn’t remember those words. I asked the counselor where to begin? The counselor said “Read the New Testament. Stay out of the Old Testament because you won’t like the God of the Old Testament.”
Here is the question I’m thinking on this morning where People don’t like the God of the Old Testament. But love Jesus Christ. How can we hate the God of the Old Testament if He is the Father of Jesus Christ? Can this be right: We love Jesus. but we hate His Father? For this is what the Son said of His Father. “They hated both Me and My Father.”
“but this comes to pass, that the word be fulfilled that is written in their law, they hated Me without cause.
if we have hated the Son without cause,
have we hated also His Father without cause?
If we have hated the Father without cause, have we hated also the Sin without cause?

Any thoughts?
Hello
@VictoryinJesus. I see you are a seasoned member of older nature on the forums. I am concerned if you are struggling with fear issues and seeing a counselor that directs any shunning of any portion of the bible as I find no fault in it's teachings for the vast majority of the NKJV translations.
I am wondering if you are asking for help and direction for your illness? I did notice that you wanted people to reflect on a message you stated in the OP: "If we have hated the Father without cause, have we hated also the Sin without cause?".
I don't believe "we" is a proper reflection direction as I'm not sure the percentage of Christians that dislike the old testament. A mature Christian in Christ enjoys the entire bible as well as other texts that are available from those historical eras. I know they have what's called "Red Letter Christians" and I think that is a more rare type of Christian idea that centers around a certain bible that makes all of Jesus' statements "red" to allow the readers to be aware of what the Master, Jesus the Lord is saying. I believe it comes from the emphasis that the Father made when speaking on an issue:
Bible Gateway passage: Matthew 17 - New King James Version
Matthew 17:1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. 7 But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” 8 When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
And that "red letter" emphasized bible was created for an intention which was good. I think people took that idea to an extreme and ignored every other area of the bible accept the happy and loving messages which most, but not all are written in the new testament.
The Holy Ghost is found in service to the Lord and he certainly provides that without fear:
Bible Gateway passage: Galatians 5:22-25 - New King James Version
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those
who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
The question I have for you is this: Have you been baptized, confirmed with the Holy Spirit by priests of God's church and also received the bread and wine of the new covenant of Jesus the Christ our Lord? If not then that is an important matter to consider.
As far as fear? There is adult direction on the matter that is not a childish counseling matter that they discuss from what I know. Fear and Aggression are natural responses to certain conditions in life. That is the area of fight or flight. That can induced adrenaline in the body which is intended by God to give strength and rapid physical agility to fight off a predator or flee from one effectively. That is a normal and natural condition of what I think was described to me as all human and animal life on the planet.
As far as counseling, you might look for some stress or threatening problem in life that needs a solution and plan to overcome. I would certainly seek God on those matters as he does love us his children and desires our salvation.
I would also avoid discussing "fear, anxiety and panic attacks" with a counselor as they have this failed idea of discussing things or matters of the heart to bring them to the surface. Their idea is that they hope for a healing of issues. But from what I saw in that area, it just reminds the person of that fear and brings it to mind for more current attacks. The medicine for that that we as children can apply is to leave that discussion in the past, move on and plan for good living environment for us and others, that escapes or resolves threatening matters that affect our health and well being.
Remember God is the only one that can heal someone of an illness as far as those matters, and I believe any matter of mind, heart, body or spirit. God is certainly able to heal us and desires us to be happy children. That was the desire that he had when he created life on earth as Adam and then Eve.
Also remember that the old testament is probably the Lord Jesus on direction to God's children of matters back then. I know God the Father had spoken in areas of that era and also new testament era. The Father, Son and Holy Ghost are our God.
Hoping for your happiness in Christ our Lord.
