The king of the north gives the beast a host so that the daily sacrifice will be abolished.
This host is the second beast which will practice the authority of the first beast on its behalf.

The word "desolation" in the phrase of "abomination of desolation" has to do with temple worship. The temple will be made desolate from the worship and praise of the One True God.

Similarly, the phrase "transgression of desolation" of Daniel 8:13, means that the temple will be made desolate from the worship and praise of the One True God. The transgression of desolation first, then shortly followed by the abomination of desolation.
