I so love this verse! It was my older sister's memory verse when I was 6 and she was 8. She repeated it so many times, I memorized it. My family wasn't a churchgoing family, but for a few months, a pastor and his wife would pick up my mother, older sister, little brother, and I and take us to church.

It's amazing how you can find scripture for basically every struggle man encounters.
Solomon lamented over his condition. He had everything, and yet he allowed his heart to be pulled away from God. A man (or woman) who lacks purpose, although they have all the material wealth anyone could want, is a very sad person. They will look around and see "it's all vanity" because they lost their focus on God and lost sight of their true purpose.

Thankfully, regardless of Solomon's sad state, God made a promise to David that He will keep.

2 Samuel 7:12-16
[12]And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
[13]He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
[14]I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
[15]But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
[16]And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
