From my X / Twitter “For you” feed this morning. The same pastor (Baptist) who rattled our window pane yesterday to get our attention takes a softer approach with us today.

”Dear Christians:

Read the Bible
Obey the Bible
Study the Bible
Meditate on the Bible
Be transformed by the Bible

* Repeat daily until God calls you home.”

(Gabriel Hughes)

Didn't the Jews who crucified Jesus read the Bible till they looked like one?
Am I saying not to read the bible? of course not. I am saying that you can use reading the bible to distract you from knowing Jesus as you can anything else.

This is what Jesus says about the matter....
John 5:39.. 'You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.....'

“Let’s be honest: if you don’t read your Bible it is because you don’t want to read your Bible. And to bottom line this further, this is indicative of your relationship with God. We cannot separate a love for the Word of God and the God of the Word.

Action item: If we do find ourselves not reading our Bibles we should examine ourselves to see the true substance of our relationship with God. Is it dysfunctional? If so repent and speak to God in confession. Then you will find yourself finding joy in God and his Word.

Your preface 'let's be honest' implies you are not always honest. Does that also roll over into you not reading your bible so you tell others to?

“God has condescended to become an author, and yet people will not read his writings. There are very few that ever gave this Book of God, the grand charter of salvation, one fair reading through.” - George Whitefield

For the readers of mine who haven’t read the Bible through, why haven’t you? If the desire is there, what could I - and / or others - do to help you do it?

From my X / Twitter “For you” feed - a John MacArthur quote:

“For true Christians, the Bible is our greatest treasure.”

Some may disagree with the expressed sentiment. Whether or not the Bible is the greatest treasure, can we not all agree that it is a great treasure?

What should we do with it?

It’s too great of a treasure to just bury it. It’s so great of a treasure that we should read it, with commensurate regularity.

It’s a real beauty. Won’t you join with others and avail yourself of it today?

1,440. That’s how many minutes we have been blessed with every day.

Many of those minutes are slotted for critical activities that we can’t abandon. I’m strongly suggesting to my readers that one of those critical daily activities should be reading the scriptures.

Is there not 15 minutes out of the 1,440 minutes we each have to work with available for reading the Bible? Maybe there isn’t. What about 10 minutes? No? What about 5 minutes? Still no? If that’s the case on a regular basis then your life is dangerously out of balance and you need to seek realignment. Review your priorities in life and make appropriate adjustments.

I’m no one that you, the reader of this message, has to spend time listening to. How much time did you invest in reading my post? If your life is so filled with critical activities that you still have time to read my message but no time to read the Bible, then let this be the last message of mine that you read. Use that time instead to read the Bible.

“The Bible is not only good but better than the best of treasure.” - C.H. Spurgeon

What would you do with “the best of treasure” if you found it buried in a field? Before we spend too much time entertaining that thought, remember that we have access to better that. It won’t profit us if we don’t use it.

I encourage my readers - whether they agree with me theologically or not - to profit daily by reading that which is “better than the best of treasure,“ the Bible.

God put an unbeliever in my path yesterday - or me in theirs - who was talking about something which was included in my reading plan for the day. I wouldn’t have answered the person the way that I did if I hadn’t yet read the prescribed portion of scripture that day. I know that it’s so because I answered the person before I read the prescribed portion and then amended my answer later that day after I read the portion.

Reading the Bible daily. Good for me. Good for him. Good for all.

“By far the best way to be prepared in answering the objections of unbelievers is to know your Bible well from the front to the back.” - Chris Bolt

The only way to “know your Bible well from the front to the back” is to ready and study it regularly.

We should be doing that and encouraging one another to do it. Not only does it benefit us, it benefits unbelievers who speak with us about their objections.

“Most people scarcely can read anymore, and much of the New Testament is difficult, relying as it does upon incessant reference to and ‘fulfillment’ of the Hebrew Bible, itself not the simplest of verbal structures.”

(Harold Bloom, Jesus and Yahweh: The Names Divine, p. 33)

It takes focused effort. Let’s take the time daily to make the effort. Let’s commit ourselves to it with purpose and diligence (2 Timothy 2:5).

My wife and I started in the book of Acts of late and we are now in first Corinthians .

1 Corinthians 12:3 Context

1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

“The Bible is a matchless library of truth.” - C.H. Spurgeon

Let’s think for a moment about what we read today. Whatever it was, what can compare with “a matchless library of truth”?

You visited somewhere today in your reading. I hope it was good.

Did you visit ”a matchless library of truth” today? Did you make time to take time to read the Bible?

What about tomorrow?

Whether or not you read the Bible today, will you make a commitment, will you make it a priority, to read the Bible tomorrow? I hope you will.

You need to read God's word for the Holy Spirit to bring it back to your memory when you need it !

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

We are now reading the book of Mark .

Mark 1:38 Context

35And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. 36And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. 37And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. 38And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. 39And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils. 40And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 41And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

Strengthen your conscience daily? Why would anyone not want to do that?

For most people, it’s at our fingertips. A daily habit of reading scripture is better than good for us.

Listen to your conscience. Is it weak or is it strong? If it’s weak, strengthen it. If it’s strong, fortify it.

Have you read your Bible today? Will you read your Bible today?

Let’s read the Bible today and develop the habit of reading it every day.
