I saw on the news a potential infectious bacterial infected area of a specific type of bacteria, which I didn't investigate how it originated if it in fact did have an origin in that area, and the possible pathogen avenues that might transmit it to other areas. It is a bacteria called Shigella and I wondered if it remained on surfaces like pets and other things for a certain length of time, so I looked up on the government website that performs stores information like that and it stated the following lifetime:

2 days – 5 months (Shigella outbreak: 10 cases confirmed among Santa Clara County homeless community, 22 suspected)

See the Fox News article here: Shigella outbreak: 10 cases confirmed among Santa Clara County homeless community, 22 suspected

And that concerned me about transmission of the bacteria and the spread of the disease. The news article stated it was found related to conditions of a number of homeless individuals. They had this to say:

"People who do come in contact should avoid swallowing the water and should wash with soap and water before eating or touching their face," the Public Health Office said in its guidance.

It added, "Partner organization workers who may come into contact with river water in the vicinity of the encampments have been advised to wear personal protective equipment."

And that concerned me for the homeless infected and for the caring people including Christian helping the homeless there. It wasn't designated a quarantined area like some of the discussion on news regarding COVID-19. Which made me wonder things about that infection and the treatment of it.

The CDC had information they stated that related to their treatment assessment: Treatment of Shigella Infection

The symptoms I found on another website:

Shigellosis (Shigella) Fact Sheet - MN Dept. of Health "Symptoms of shigellosis include diarrhea (often bloody), abdominal pain, stomach cramps, and fever. Sometimes people infected with Shigella have no symptoms at all, but can still pass the bacteria to others. Symptoms usually begin 1 to 3 days after being exposed to Shigella."

All that said, there are diverse reasons people become homeless. They all deserve a better life. Some do not want a different life and some do. And various reason they have become homeless. I am going to advise people now having encounter some of the homeless in my area and found that they said they had various contagious diseases, such as hepatitis and MERCA. As well as that there may be body lice transmitted by animal life in the areas they occupy. And that varies in percentage depending on drug use and sexual conduct as well as other factors.

I am not advising to not help them unless the health authorities say otherwise. But caution should be taken so as to avoid potentially harmful diseases and infections.
