Are you?

I know I can be..,is it learnt from childhood?

What’s makes us keep wanting to have the last word?

Is it because of self, ego, pride?

I bet you that some can’t even admit to their arguing ways..would you say that comes with discernment?

I must say, I’ve learnt a lot about my argumentative ways...

Thank you for your post.

There is a time to argue and a time to be silent (Ecclesiastes?) Question: are you in control or are your emotions? (See James)

Surely, we should not hesitate to correct falsehoods, except once we have made our points and the invincibly ignorant babbles on. Staying in polite control when we are provoked is a proper goal for a Christian.

Jesus was a master in debate, and an appropriate role model.

Oh, but to have heard Paul and Peter argue the doctrines for The Way.

My one exception to arguing: by definition, anything my spouse says about me stands without rejoinder!

Peace.

What I do now, because I lack self control at times, I will put the arguer on ignore, that way I won’t be tempted to keep arguing my point.

Sometimes though, imo, some things must be said..my heart is being cleansed no way am I perfected in Christ..even though the Father sees my sins no more.

No more am I under condemnation,I’m in Christ,I look to the Spirit to help me with arguing, I cannot look to self...it’s all done in his timing in his strength.

My opinion.

1Jo 1:6-9

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Isaiah 61:10-11

King James Version

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 8

King James Version

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 3:9
Audio Crossref Comment Greek
Verse (Click for Chapter)
New International Version
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.

New Living Translation
Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.

English Standard Version
No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Berean Standard Bible
Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Berean Literal Bible
Anyone having been born of God does not practice sin, because His seed abides in him, and he is not able to continue sinning, because he has been born of God

Surely, arguing is a human trait based in insecurity.

But there is another aspect or two that we even see here on Christianity Board:
  1. There are those who have built their house upon any manner of beliefs and stand guard to defend it whether right or wrong.
  2. And then there is the actual truth that God defends (even using people)...which is no argument, although historically even and especially the people of God do argue against Him...as history has proven.
Unfortunately, some if not many, have adopted a practice of categorically dismissing anything and everything that does not agree with their own position or understanding. Meaning that amidst the great number of false beliefs and claims, not even God is allowed by some to put forth the actual truth...as He has always done. Perhaps I should start a new thread: The Way God HAS ALWAYS Revealed The Truth.

Bingo ..,I’m trying not to do that anymore and asking the Spirit to guide me ...keep me out of that old man please Lord.

I clash with some on here...so, I’ve now put them on ignore, how can we grow in spirit, if we keep on arguing all the time..thank you Brother.

Age and experience in life and in the spirit of God brings maturity, patience, humility and more wisdom, and more self-control. The Spirit will always let you know (convicted you) when you've embarrassed yourself long enough.

I keep a watch out for the fiery darts of the enemy, and make sure I have the shield of faith in place to quench them, otherwise I would be consumed by arguments. Typically they flare up when the enemy thinks my guard is down.

Jas 1:19-20 Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. (20) For the wrath of man does not work out the righteousness of God.

No worries sister......there is no condemnation in walking in the light and confessing and repenting of sins. If anyone is trying to tell you otherwise, they are wrong. It's for our good that we are to keep short accounts with the Lord. We need to fess up when we mess up.
