Does anyone else feel a sense of dread? It's kind of like this undercurrent. Subtle, but it's there. It's like there's something wrong in our society, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

Hi, as a Christian, I have the peace of God, so no dread.

However, a lot of society has gotten away from faith in God. Thereby, a lot of craziness going on in the world.

There is plenty wrong in our societies. I have mentioned before about a prophetic preacher by the name of George Miller, who I heard speak over a week-long outreach way back in the early 80s. He spoke of how the whole infrastructure of society would collapse. At the time I couldn't imagine it happening but it has. But I am comforted by the fact that God knew what was going to happen. I am in His mighty hands.

I think many people feel dread at different times of their lives, and I don’t believe it is limited to those with faith. The world is in a mess, but I am pretty sure that those going through World War One or two would have equally seen so much turmoil that it would have created many negative emotions.
I guess you have to think about what lay behind the dread - fear of death, what you might have to face ect ect , that may help you to work out what will counter attack that dread.
I came to faith when I was 24years old because I feared hell ( I had dabbled with so many horror films and just had an inner fear of Satan and the demonic world ) Out of the blue God started to encourage me to go to church , read scripture. Now I understand that God was trying to get my attention in order to bring me into his fold , to deal with that fear. I also don’t have the same views of hell anymore.
As a Christian I believe in the spiritual realm, it’s unseen but mingles in with life on earth. So I believe there is a battle between good and evil taking place.
Sorry that’s probably not perhaps what you were looking for ….but I thought I would share anyway xxx

Absolutely!

The world is the place created by God to manifest both good and evil, then restrict return entry to those who are born [again} of His perfect spiritual nature. So, yes, there is a war going on. And just as there is an unseen war going on in heaven, there is an unseen war manifest here in the world. Good and evil are literally doing battle (as we speak) both in heaven and in this world.

Thus, it is important to be committed to which it is you would choose to side with for eternity. Because that's what we are born into the world for--to choose. Then comes the end, just as it has been written.

Incidentally, good has and is winning. This is the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

What are you going to do about it?

As an agnostic, what’s your lifeboat?
Well, I guess I don't have one. Still, I'm not convinced that I need one either. And even if I did, which version of Christianity should I choose? They can't agree amongst themselves what is true and what is not in their own faith.

Everyone needs a lifeboat when the ship is sinking. Despite your sense of dread, you must have some reason to think that the ship isn’t going to sink.

And even if I did, which version of Christianity should I choose?

Everyone has to be persuaded in their own mind.

They can't agree amongst themselves what is true and what is not in their own faith.

All I can advise you to do is listen to Jesus. I encourage you to believe that what he says is true, but the decision is yours. He’s the judge, not fractured Christianity.

I live in the United States. I think this sense of dread I feel could be a lead up to the next great war. A nuclear one maybe. I've had the sense for a while now that the era of the American empire is winding down.

If I'm right, then the ship is already sinking. And I guess that means you're right, too. The only difference I suppose is, you've managed to secure your place in the lifeboat.

Everyone has to be persuaded in their own mind.
Exactly my point. You see, I have this theory. I don't think anyone truly rejects God or Christianity, except maybe people of other religions. The agnostics and atheists? They just haven't been persuaded.

I think too many Christians get it wrong. They think everyone that isn't a Christian just rejects it outright in order to live a sinful life. But the truth is, the Christians sin just as much, if not more. But they can go to church on Sunday and ask for forgiveness.

All I can advise you to do is listen to Jesus. I encourage you to believe that what he says is true, but the decision is yours. He’s the judge, not fractured Christianity.
Is it my choice? Do you know that for a fact? What if it's not? What if I cant believe it even if I really would like to? Is it still my choice?

The Bible says that it is. I believe that it is.

You’ll have to answer that for yourself.
Do you think it's right for non-Christians that are decent people to end up in hell? Or do you believe we go somewhere else?

Christian and non-Christian alike end up in hell (Gk. sheol / Gk. hades) when they die. It’s the place of the dead, the grave.

Or do you believe we go somewhere else?

Where anyone ultimately winds up going is in the hands of the Messiah to decide.

So, not heaven then? I think many Christians think that they will go to heaven upon death.
