I got my number from the Center for the Study of Global Christianity of the Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. According to their FAQ page, they define a denomination like this:

"The most detailed level of our taxonomy of global Christianity is Christian denominations, defined as an organized Christian church, tradition, religious group, community of people, aggregate of worship centre, usually within a specific country, whose component congregations and members are called by the same name in different areas, regarding themselves as an autonomous Christian church distinct from other churches and traditions. Denominations are defined and measured at the country level, creating a large number of separate denominations within Christian families and Christian traditions. For example, the presence of the Catholic Church in the world’s 234 countries results in 234 Catholic “denominations”, though these can be further subdivided by rite (e.g., Byzantine or Latin). The typical way for Christians to count themselves is at the local congregational level and then aggregate these totals at the city, province, state, regional and finally, national levels.
Individual congregations are not counted as “denominations.” We do make note of the fact that many independent congregations are not a part of any denomination. If those churches were to form an independent network with a name, we would consider them a denomination. Using this method, we report 45,000 Christian denominations in the world in 2019."

source: Quick Facts About Global Christianity - Center for the Study of Global Christianity
I spoke with the authors congregations are counted as a denimonination using their social way of counting.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR NUMBERS?

Three major sources for international religious demography are:
  • Censuses where a religion and/or ethnicity question is asked
  • Surveys & polls
  • Data from religious communities
These data are analyzed and reconciled to arrive at the most accurate representation of a country or region’s religious make-up. For a comprehensive overview of the methodology of religious demography, see Todd M. Johnson and Brian J. Grim, The World’s Religions in Figures: An Introduction to International Religious Demography (Malden: Wiley-Blackwell, 2013).

As of 2023, Jehovah's Witnesses have congregations in 239 countries,
thus they have 239 denominations.

Since Rom 10:13 is a quote from Joel 2:32 what does the original Hebrew say there….?

5 And it shall come to pass that whoever shall call in the name of the Lord shall be delivered, for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be a deliverance, as the Lord said, and among the survivors whom the Lord invites.

“The Lord” here is Yahweh ( יְהֹוָ֖ה)…..we are to call on the name of the God of Israel (mentioned twice in that verse) as Jesus did……and the name that he taught his disciples, was lost again by the infiltration of wicked men who corrupted God’s worship in the Christian arrangement, just as the Jews had done before them.

We can see in the above quotation from the Jewish Tanakh, that the Jews disobeyed God’s command to keep his name before his people in every generation, and due to their own unfounded ideas, (and with no command from Yahweh to eliminate his name from their speech) they stopped saying his name and we lost the pronunciation……and the word “Lord” (Adonai) was substituted. They did however retain God’s name in their Scripture, as we see above and in Exodus 3:13-15….

15 And God said further to Moses, "So shall you say to the children of Israel, 'The Lord God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, and this is how I should be mentioned in every generation.

In the Greek Scriptures, the same thing happened…following Jewish tradition, they substituted “Kyrios”(Lord) not only in their speech, but also in their Scripture, and so confusion was caused in determining which “Lord” was being referred to.…..Yahweh or his son. This resulted in the use of the definite article to identify which “theos” (god) was being referenced. (In English translations the definite article is largely ignored, but it is the identifier of the Father, since Jesus is never identified by the definite article.)
Thus the nameless God of Israel and the name of the Lord Jesus was grafted over a Catholic invention and later, with the inclusion of the Holy Spirit, was maintained by all of Christendom as a “godhead”…a word and concept that does not exist in any passage of Scripture.

Jesus said his he came to make his Father’s name known to his disciples…..

John 17:6-8, 26
I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. . . . . and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” (NASB1995)

So it is not “calling on the name of Jesus” that saves anyone…..it is calling on the name of his God and Father…the one Jesus prayed to, and asked that “our Father’s” name be “hallowed” (sanctified)….a name that was lost by the Jews so that the devil could get in there and confuse the identity of “the only true God” (John 17:3) in a doctrine that should never have been taught as truth……because it never was.

As confronting as this may be to many people….it is the truth. The apostasy that caused this twisted misconception of the very nature of God was foretold, but Christendom pretends that it never happened….(Matt 13: 24-30; 36-42) If they acknowledged it, their whole belief system would collapse. The “weeds” were not planted recently….and the devil is on the warpath because he knows that his time is short….
Thank you for proving Jesus is G_d.

Jesus isn't the LORD (YHWH) though. So calling on Jesus isn't equal to calling on the LORD. Here are some examples below that clarify this.

Compare Psalm 2:7 to Hebrews 1:5. The LORD/Father speaking to the Son in Psalm 2:7 is God speaking to the Son in Hebrews Hebrews 1:5.

Psalm 2
7I will proclaim the decree
spoken to Me by the LORD:
“You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.
Hebrews 1
5For to which of the angels did God ever say:
“You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father”?

Compare Psalm 110:1 to Hebrews 1:13. The LORD speaking to the Lord in Psalm 110:1 is God speaking to the Son in Hebrews 1:13.

Psalm 110
1The LORD said to my Lord:
“Sit at My right hand
until I make Your enemies
a footstool for Your feet.”
Hebrews 1
13Yet to which of the angels did God ever say:
“Sit at My right hand
until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?

Hebrews 1

Easy-to-Read Version

God Has Spoken Through His Son

1 In the past God spoke to our people through the prophets. He spoke to them many times and in many different ways. 2 And now in these last days, God has spoken to us again through his Son. He made the whole world through his Son. And he has chosen his Son to have all things. 3 The Son shows the glory of God. He is a perfect copy of God’s nature, and he holds everything together by his powerful command. The Son made people clean from their sins. Then he sat down at the right side[a] of God, the Great One in heaven. 4 The Son became much greater than the angels, and God gave him a name that is much greater than any of their names.
5 God never said this to any of the angels:
“You are my Son.
Today I have become your Father.”
God also never said about an angel,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my son.”
6 And then, when God presents his firstborn Son to the world,[b] he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”[c]
7 This is what God said about the angels:
“He changes his angels into winds[d]
and his servants into flaming fire.”
8 But this is what he said about his Son:
“God, your kingdom will last forever and ever.
You use your authority for justice.
9 You love what is right and hate what is wrong.
So God, your God, has chosen you,
giving you more honor and joy than anyone like you.”
10 God also said,
“O Lord, in the beginning you made the earth,
and your hands made the sky.
11 These things will disappear, but you will stay.
They will all wear out like old clothes.
12 You will fold them up like a coat,
and they will be changed like clothes.
But you never change,
and your life will never end.”
13 And God never said this to an angel:
“Sit at my right side
until I put your enemies under your power.[e]”
14 All the angels are spirits who serve God and are sent to help those who will receive salvation.

Footnotes

  1. Hebrews 1:3 right side The place of honor and authority (power).
  2. Hebrews 1:6 world This may mean the world into which Jesus was born (see Lk. 2:1-14), or it may have the same meaning as in Heb. 2:5—the world to come, to which the risen Christ is presented as king (see Php. 2:9-11).
  3. Hebrews 1:6 “Let … him” These words are found in Deut. 32:43 in the ancient Greek version and in a Hebrew scroll from Qumran.
  4. Hebrews 1:7 winds This can also mean “spirits.”
  5. Hebrews 1:13 until I put … power Literally, “until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

What many do not know is that christanity has been transformed into something else and done
so from within . They also did and are doing this with the other false religoins too .
They are merging them to be as one . To do so fundamental core doctrines must be replaced
but replaced with something that all religoins even the world has in common .
THEY FOUND that common ground and went to work to transform from within chrisanity .
What does this lost world have in common . what do even the false religoins have in common .
Think about it . A WORDLY SENSUAL VIEW of LOVE .
Now this love will make void certain truths . And it will DENY JESUS as the only way to GOD
It will also honor certain sins and the greatest sin of all is even honored , THE SIN OF UNBELIEF
as they now chant that muslilms and others be serving the same GOD we do .
YOU SEE , THE Devil placed it upon the hearts of very power hungry and greedy men
to create a religoin that will unite the world as one .
To do this you must also remove fundamental doctrines . I mean no muslim , no christain , no etc
is ever gonna unite IF they hold to the core tenenats of their doctrine .
So get busy preaching love a lot . make the love you preach seem as though it cometh of GOD , when It dont .
its just a love to unite the lost to accept their sin and their path and just join as one .
FUNDAMENTAL Christain core doctrine was in their way . SO they used
catch phrases like , breaking down barriers , AKA REMOVING DOCTRINE that WONT UNITE
Building bridges , aka Preaching non stop about this version of love .
FINDING COMMON GROUND . aka talking about love a lot and doing some good works to the poor and etc
BUT remember FUNDAMNETNAL DOCTRINE they had to remove . SO that is why the preaching of JESUS
was removed with lil catch phrases like , ONLY USE WORDS when necessary ,
and now its getting worse . They knew what they were doing all along . creating a love by which
ALL religoins and even the world WOULD UNITE as ONE UNDER . ONLY IT AINT THE LOVE OF GOD
and it AINT OF GOD . the devil been busy my friend . real busy .
Judge not became the golden calf and as such LEAVEN TOOK OVER the places .
As they danced around the inclusive love bull, the very love they beleived was of GOD
that came to unite them , HAS TURNED THEIR HEARTS AGAINST THE VERY WORDS OF GOD , thus AGAINST GOD
against CHRIST . they cannot see this . They have no idea another image of GOD and of CHRIST
has long been preached unto them . They have no idea what TRUE CHRISTANITY has lost
and worse that they themselves are STILL LOST .
Yes I understand what you mean. There are a lot of things said in Christianity that sound religious, sound good, but ultimately are misleading. First thing that comes to my mind is "Come as you are..." but the part they leave off is "...but don't stay as you are." While many are called, few are chosen. Yes, one may come as they are, but the expectation is they don't stay in their sin and they truly repent.

I don't see that much focus is placed on actually growing Christians past infancy. For everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil. Yet the goal is to have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; and to still others show mercy tempered with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh.

But as far as the love of God goes, I think that is also not completely misunderstood. God loves us, yes, but it's not what you think. He wishes you well, wishes you the best, but He has already provided what we need in this world. He isn't going to compromise any of His standards or laws to help us. That's why bad things happen to good people who it seems like they should have been loved and protected. Don't misunderstand, this world is all about cause and effect. The choices we make all have a result whether they be physical actions or otherwise. We will be meticulously judged as a result, even for every idle word spoken; it's all being recorded.

Islam is a fake religion. Yes, there is a movement to unite Islam with Christianity and it has created a new religion called Chrislam. As far as I know it's just the RCC embracing them right now.

Acts 4:10-12 KJV
10) Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Lets take this a verse at a time and see what it is actually saying in plain English…the language we speak today…..for context, this is when a crippled man was healed “in the name of Jesus Christ”…..so we understand that “in the name of” means being given authority to do something as a representative of the person in whose name it is carried out.
If a police officer was to say to someone “Stop in the name of the law”….he is not the law, but is a representative of the law, and authorized by it to apprehend a criminal.

So….”by the name of Jesus”…”whom God raised from the dead” does the man stand before the accusers, healed. Who raised Jesus from the dead? He did not raise himself.

Jesus had told his apostles....”…whatever you ask in my name, I will do this, so that the Father may be glorified in connection with the Son. 14 If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:13)

John 15:16..
“You did not choose me, but I chose you, and I appointed you to go and keep bearing fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that no matter what you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

They performed miracles “in Jesus’ name”, or by his authority until the promised holy spirit would be given them after his departure…..this is not what was meant by calling on the name of Yahweh…..the one who gave Jesus his authority. (Matt 28:18) As the scripture says…it is “the Father” who grants Christians their requests, asked “in Jesus’ name”.…indicating faith in his sacrifice.
11) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Yes, Jesus is the name of the savior, sent by his God and Father to redeem the human race and save them from the judgment to come. The Father is the Savior who sends the rescuer which makes him also a savior.
The term means “a rescuer or deliverer”. It is not exclusive to Jesus or his Father. There are others called “saviors”. (Judges 3:9)
That Name is Jesus.
“Calling on the name of the LORD” is not calling on Jesus, but on the one Jesus called to in his dying moments….his God and Father. Yahweh saves us through the actions of his Messiah in laying down his sinless life to pay back what Adam stole from his children. Father and son have always acted as a team…..right from the beginning….(Rev 3:14)

They are “Father” and “son” by their own definition, so why is there a need to reinterpret that relationship that is clearly understood by all humans? What was simple then becomes ridiculously complicated and confusing by trying to redefine something that never needed to be.…just to accommodate a false doctrine?…which was something that Jesus never taught. Who is responsible for that do you think?

many will say and make the claim that GOD IS LOVE . which is true , but check this out .
HOW do we know they have no LOVE OF GOD .
I mean they often talk about loving your neighbor as yourself . WHICH is TRUE , ONLY they do not love their
neighbor or GOD .
HOW so .
Check this out . walk into the diverse inclusive unity love song churches and you see what they sing .
YOU see what they seem to love , what they seem to accept AND what do they REJECT .
NOW this is key .
You will see SIN upon them . you will at worst see rainbows and the sin be honored
and at the very least its JUDGE NOT and nothing gets corrected .
You will see them fast to hug just anyone , BUT WONT be correcting any sin .
BUT here is what you will see them correct as they reject .
BRING IN BIBLE DOCTRINE that exposes SINS . AND YOU WATCH how they TEETH AT IT AND AT YOU .
this love they think is of GOD , has ODDLY TURNED THEM BIG TIME against HIS OWN WORDS
and calls good what HE calls evil and evil what HE calleth good .
THEY have no idea they are under the spell of a delusion of darkness .
THEY believe they LOVE GOD and that we are the haters . As they holler phrases like GOD IS NOT A BOOK
as they calls even certain scriptures hate speech and twist many more unto their own destruction
and all the while they chant GOD is love to cover their sins and to justify thier sins . THIS AINT LOOKING GOOD .
They will holler love your neighbor , and yet their love ALLOWS SIn UPON THEM ALL . WONT CORRECT SQUAT
WONT EVEN CORRECT THE SIN OF UNBELIEF .
and now a word .
YE shall NOT hate your neighbor in your heart , you shall rebuke , correct him and not allow SIN upon him .
THEIR LOVE ALLOWS SIN
yet ours corrects sin and they call us the haters . talk about a delusion .
all of that and then made their own Bible called the Queen James Bible to further enable them. Yes, it's been edited.

John 20 Thomas said to Jesus, "My Lord and my GOD"!

Should we believe Aunty or Thomas whom Jesus taught in person?

This is an important point actually because it is a planned ignorance and lack of knowledge past the infant stage, otherwise the ‘sheeples’ sitting in the pews might realize that most of what they hear is not the truth, only dressed up to look like it.

We see people here arguing, clearly out of their depth in the discussion, but hammering away at the old party line with insults instead of scripture, as if these things have not been examined under a microscope and found to be completely misunderstood or misinterpreted. A spiritual infant would not know the difference, but those who have bothered to study the Bible for themselves gain an insight that others never get to experience. They remain stuck at that level and never progress past it. There is no real excuse for ignorance these days when we are in an age with unprecedented access to knowledge about everything.

But even with all the knowledge in the world, it is the condition of our heart that will mean salvation at the end of the day…..unless knowledge is put to good use, and alters the way we think and behave, it is wasted. It is a means to an end…not an end in itself.

I'd like a $1 for every time you have posted this verse....I could retire! It does prove that a person can read a verse armed with either mans wisdom, or God's, and arrive at totally opposing positions. Seek wisdom and with all thy seeking Jack, get understanding!
