I don’t like coffee and he doesn’t like God. One of these things seems more serious than the other.
If you spilled hot coffee in your lap while reading your Bible, would you put the Bible aside
while you deal with the coffee, or keep reading? Sometimes coffee is more serious!

Nobody seems to be taking this topic seriously.
The currently absent topic originator seemed pretty serious.
A topic with the title "The God of Hate" seems serious to me.
As did the tirade he posted.

I like to INJECT humor, but I am serious about the subject.
Are you a black and white AND no gray type person?

If you spilled hot coffee in your lap while reading your Bible….

An unthinkable scenario for me.

… would you put the Bible aside
while you deal with the coffee, or keep reading? Sometimes coffee is more serious!

A more realistic scenario: Someone (@the.reverent.atheist ?) who likes coffee spills their in my lap while I’m reading the Bible.

I would deal with the coffee in my lap, then the person who spilled it in my lap, then resume reading my Bible.

Something similar happened to me on my first trip to Africa. On a flight from London, England to Lilongwe, Malawi, we hit some turbulence and a flight attendant dumped a cup of Coke down my back. I had been reading the Bible prior to the incident but had stopped when drinks were being served. There was little I could do about my clothing (a cocktail napkin only goes so far) and the flight attendant apologized for an accident that was out of her control. I don’t remember now if I resumed reading my Bible or just stretched out (I was the only white person on the flight and I had an entire row of seats to myself - the flight was booked solid except for my row) and went to sleep.

Seems you changed your mind.

I’ve tried drinking coffee three times. Strike 1. Strike 2. Strike 3. Coffee is out.

So the Bible finished last in this scenario. Bummer.

A lap of hot coffee and a human being - probably two - in distress would take precedence in the moment over continuing to read the Bible. The moment would pass quickly. Reading would soon resume.

See post #2. The OP wasn’t much interested in it. His agenda, I think, is pretty plain.
Well, the OP might not be interested in actually discussing the issue, but I thought it was an interesting topic. It comes up frequently when debating with atheists so I think it's important for us, as Christians, to be able to intelligently dispel such criticism. I was hoping to get some takes here.

My take is in post #2. I think that’s a logical place to start.

The conversation between he and I dried up quickly. He’s looking for something else.

When I was a college student I attended a classroom lecture entitled, “Yahweh. As told by Yahweh.” The lecture was about Yahweh’s character; an exposition of Exodus 34:6-7. The professor used the NIV - which I personally don’t care much for, but I’ll quote it here because of the acronyms the professor used. They made quite an impression on me and are stamped on my memory.

“And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generations.’”

CG, SA, ALF, ML, FWRS, YNLGU.

With few exceptions, the atheist feigns interest in God and his character but has no real interest in him. The real interest of the atheist in these types of conversations is the believer, and the aim is to tear down and tear away.

Yes, he also didn't react to any of my posts, in which I tried to directly address his points. He's clearly not looking to engage, only to attack.

That the Bible is important to me is putting it mildly, but I’ll gladly and with thanks take it.

I’m retired. While at times I seem to be busier in retirement, in truth I have an abundance of quiet time every day. Today is no exception.
