2 Peter 2:1
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (KJB)

Now, I believe this passage is telling us that salvation can be lost. When it states "even denying the Lord that bought them" this would indicate that they were once in a redeemed state of being purchased by His blood and are no longer. This makes sense, because if one actively destroys the faith of another by leading them away from Christ, how would they possibly repay what they have robbed Christ of? We only have 1 soul to give Christ, and if we destroy the souls of others, surely that is the most offensive fruit one can bear here on earth and one is rightly punished with swift destruction.

Agree? Disagree? I would like for this discussion to focus solely on this passage. Thank you.

Additional question: Did Saul of Tarsus destroy the faith of Christians during the early stages of his persecution?

Read the whole chapter not just these two verses and get the full impact of the distructive behaviour of these teachers.
There is a great difference betwen a fragile faith struggling to follow Jesus and someone who willfully and deliberatly flouts every Christian precept as these teachers do.

The passage specifically states that they were bought. Which can only mean that they did, at one point, belong to Christ and that he purchased them, no?

I'm concerned at misleading Christians with fragile faith, that telling them they can loose their salvation could push them into disbelief.
What happens to believers who so deliberatly abuse the grace of God as these fales teachers do, I'm not concerned about.
They know the truth yet intelligently distorted it knowing the harm they will do to others.
Jesus warned that those who taught his little ones to stumble , it would be better if they'd never been born.
So I would suggest that such false teachers, may have been saved but through their consitent rejection and lying about God, his truth, the nature of salvation and how to be saved has lead them to recieve the punishment that such distortion richly deserves.
