And that's a good point. I think more people in the Roman Empire era of Israel "got it" after Jesus was crucified, if that makes sense. I mean, the Jewish people of that time were expecting a Messiah of significant military and political power, so Jesus didn't meet their expectations of a Messiah.

I agree that it was the same gospel. However, it was the Jewish religious leaders who made their man-made traditions and laws equivalent (or, in same cases, more important) to the gospel. And Jesus called them out on this.
