Just heard a sermon that came down pretty hard on skepticism.
Trying to process how I feel about that. Thanks for listening. (send help)

It appears that there is no room for healthy skepticism in the church.
But for some reason the skeptics weren't called gullible. No one was, actually.

We are offered apologetics to counteract skepticism. (unbelief)

I was raised evangelical Protestant.
I remember my state of shock when I found out where the Bible actually came from.
Not what the church told me.

I had never heard of the canon of scripture.
I thought a cannon was a war relic, not a religious relic. - Ha!

Same with the hell doctrine.
No one informed me that there were three biblical doctrines of the final judgment.
They did bad-mouth Universalism though.

I had no idea that Universalism was actually a Christian doctrine from the early church in the East.
Which is where the church came from, hello?

And what about inerrancy? Don't get me started... Grr...

Anyone else want to rant on either aspect? Thanks.
The issue, as I see it, is that many are treating the church fathers as authoritative, placing their writings above Scripture, which should always remain the primary source. I was encouraged to learn that even Bob Utley wasn’t aware of the three main theories about Hell, showing that interpretations vary. A great resource on this topic is F.F. Bruce's works, which offer valuable insight into early Christian thought and the reliability of Scripture.

I am sceptic of everything untill i have gained some faith in such and then proceed from their to gain more faith on anything in question.

I never have just believe what has been said ever.

At Church when i was a young child, they would say, Just believe ! and i was like, are you a retard ! Why would i believe or have faith in anything that i did not understand was worthy.

I was brought up as a Protistant, then i looked into the RCC when my Grand mother died as i got her 1953 RCC Bible and read the doctrines, then i questions such to my Priest and he ran away from all questions and just spun a Line of endoctrinated dribble !
I tryed to say, as he was reciting such, Stop right their on that point ! and Stop right their on that point and their and their, for they were points i wanted to be informed on ! but Hell No ! he ran away from the questions. now up to this point I had dispized the RCC.

I had no problems with the RCC Doctrines, but in regards of all of the RC Faith, they had no real regards the RCC Doctrines, as they were just as the Protistans said of the RC People in fact ! in general.

My Children went to RCC School all the way, but i never met one RCC in the schools who i looked up to as to be impressed with regarding the Doctrines of the RCC, they were all simpltons on the subject and never wanted to talk about Jesus Christ at all or anything like that truly at all. Lukewarm maybe some but most were Cold as Ice on any such subject !
Most were dedicated Socialist Period ! or wealthy stuck up two faced idiot snobs posturising as Christians.
Then in the last two years of that school the new Principle was not even a Christian ! but had only coverted ? for the Job ! and the new Priest, was Satanic moron ! gutless as they come with total fear of me, that he would run and hide or be rude ! because he knew well i could expose the simpleton idiot. not to mention he ran out of the Church when my nipper was the top of the class for religious marks by far.

My younger brother went to a Protistant school for a year and he said, they were the worst people that he had ever met in general, for they gambled, such a idiot culture coming from wealthy area, that we had moved to live.

What Jesus said: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No-one comes to the Father except through Me".

Regardless of clergy or congregation deficits, the Gospel is the Gospel.

It appears that there is no room for healthy skepticism in the church.

Its interesting that your mind sees one sermon, one isolated sermon, as "" the entire church has a problem".
Maybe you should revise your thinking on that one....

And the thing about skepticism, regarding Christianity, is that it's often unbelief guised as skepticism.

It seems that your only point of view, regarding the bible, the church, is to be "skeptical"........and found in that, unbelief is obviously rampant.

Ive noted that you have not posted a Thread on This Forum, that says anything positive in its Title, regarding the Bible, Christianity, or The Church.
So, you are well beyond "skeptical. @St. SteVen

How about Ephesians 4:14
"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"

We see where healthy scepticism lay, in doubting new doctrines and deceitful man.

@St. SteVen ....You feel that if someone disagrees with you on a forum, then they are your enemy?

Listen, let me show you what it means when a Mod is your enemy..

A.) ................."Banned for Life"........................

And you are allowed to do it...........here.
So, you should be thankful, vs, whining.

A "Real Bible Believer"?
What does that even mean? - LOL

[

It means that its something that you'll never achieve, unless something happens in your heart that elevates and enlightens you. @St. SteVen

Let me explain this phrase....."bible Believer" ..for you.

It means that there is a type of Perfected and Genuine Christianity, which by revelation... understands that the Holy Bible is the final authority regarding ALL matters of Truth, Faith, Doctrine, and Discipleship.

There is no consensus on what the Bible says. (means)
This forum is the best evidence of that.

Read into it what you want, I quoted scripture that concerns deception in the church. A good reason to be sceptical.

Also there is this one:
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
