Sorry, not meaning to implicate you personally. I was speaking to the church in general, who does tend to minimize what God is wanting to accomplish in His people. For example, the moment anyone suggests that God can, if we believe in faith, through His grace give us the power to obey His commandments, Christians come from all directions saying "No!! That's impossible! We will always be sinners. We can never overcome sin. In fact, the commandments are impossible to obey. You are a legalist! You follow the laws of Moses. Are you circumcised? Do you kill people who don't keep the Sabbath? blah blah." I have come to the sad conclusion that the vast majority of Christians today simply do not want to obey God. They'll take all He has to give, like heaven will be a cool place to live and all, and I sure as hell don't wanna go there, but holiness and obedience, God understands we are but dust right? He loves us right? Just as we are?

"Sorry, not meaning to implicate you personally. I was speaking to the church in general,"

Gotcha :)

Sadly, I agree. Obedience and holiness are simply not taught on anymore (Church in general, lol) All He want's is our obedience then we would be holy in His sight, amen!
And agreed...the attitude of "okay, just give me my inheritance thank you, and I'll be on my way" seems to have permeated so many Christians. What's even more disturbing, IMHO, is that most do not even desire to want to please Him.

Continual prayer for the Church brother!

The links that unite us may not be visible, yet surely they are there. The question is, are we in union with the true Christ or one of our own imagining?

Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

All are welcome to come to the wedding feast of the Lamb of God!

The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." Let the hearer say, "Come." Let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving water.

Gloria in excelcis Deo!

Amen, Brother. And these are the same folks who will, in their next breath, say things like: "Our calling is so much higher than merely keeping the law."

Some people do not understand what obedience is.

If you believe your denomination is teaching something that is closer to the truth than others, does that necessarily mean you are narrow-minded or elitist or, worse yet, look down on those of other faiths?

That is a loaded question... The Roman Catholic church teaches that they are the ONE TRUE CHURCH.... They also add on sacraments to be followed which are mandatory if one desires to "stay" in good graces.

The Calvinists believe that some folks are destined for hell... Too bad... so sad.

The Word of Faith/Prosperitists ( I made up that word )... will tell you that ALL sickness is derived from sin and lack of faith.... and that Jesus wants you to be filthy rich.... but first... GIVE us some money.

Some believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit stopped after the apostles... therefore leaving the church to be barren and dry.

They all claim to have better denominations... and some even claim to be SUPERIOR...

None of the above are anything I would desire to be a part of.

The word Catholic does indeed mean UNIVERSAL Christian Church... but sadly this term is used to describe the Roman Catholic Church.
Those who are of this denomination believe themselves to be the true church... Thus this word brings division... and debate.

Refer back to post #230 for an explanation as to why the Catholic Church is the Church established by Jesus, and thus not a "denomination" of Christianity, as in "as in "a branch of any religion." Other denominations branched off from us.

I mean absolutely NO disrespect here.... but I do not desire to debate Catholicism with anyone... I left the clutches of this cult years ago... with no desire to return. I purposely stay FAR away from the Catholic discussions.

In that case, and I mean no disrespect, refrain from remarking on Catholicism on a debate forum.

I answered the question in the Original post... YOU are the one who has approached me. I did not realize this was a Catholic thread.

Your posts #258 and #259 contained comments on the Catholic Church. You should not have commented on Catholicism on a debate forum if you do not intend to debate it with anyone.

Oh my goodness... it's way too early in the morning for this.... I commented that the word Catholic means universal church but that the Roman Catholics also use the term.... This is NOT a debate... As a rule... I do not converse with those who are Catholics. I also do not usually publicly bash the religion. I answered the question in the original post. NOW then... are we done?

You did not only comment on the meaning of the word "Catholic," but also that Catholics believe they are members of the "one true Church" and "thus the word "Catholic" brings "division and debate," so I naturally replied the way I did (#260). If you did not intend to debate that, then you should not have submitted such comments.

and as one wonderful person once told me... YOU are NOT the arbitrator of my words. Please take your natural replies to someone who desires to debate with you. My comments stand.... The Catholic church is a denomination that believes they are the ONE true church.... I also described what other denominations believe.... so NO I did not center you guys out.... I simply made a point.

The original question of this post was this.... If you believe your denomination is teaching something that is closer to the truth than others, does that necessarily mean you are narrow-minded or elitist or, worse yet, look down on those of other faiths?

I answered that question.... It was NOT a debate.

No worries. This is neither a Catholic nor a debate thread. :)

You said "It is for each individual to determine for himself" which Church is closer to teaching the truth, so I naturally asked, "Have you determined for yourself?" Again, have you?
Yes, I have.

You did not only comment on the meaning of the word "Catholic," and state Catholics believe they are members of the "one true church," but also commented on that belief claiming it brings "division and debate" over the word "Catholic," so I naturally replied the way I did (#260). You even commented Catholics "add on sacraments to be followed which are mandatory if one desires to "stay" in good graces." Such comments ignite debate, and if you did not intend to debate on Catholicism, then you should not have commented on it the ways you did.
No worries... Barney was here and he brought cookies. Your heart seems to be in a place of wanting to argue... and I have tried to articulate that I do not wish to do so.... THIS is the LAST time I am GOING to ADDRESS you.

And there we have it.... the 5 am debate that was not a debate but could have been a debate.

This is why I do not engage in conversations with those who are bent and bound to defend Catholicism.

Sadly... soul... you or now on IGNORE... which literally means... I will not be able to see or read any of your
future posts... I did try to warn you. Be blessed.
