It's a bank safe from 1890. I cannot move it and never will be able to. It's just so, so heavy. I don't think I'll be able to sell it because... Who really needs a bank safe? But it's taking up the dining room space.

What would you do with it?

Would that not be of value to a heritage place, or museum - surely because it’s so old it would be valuable to someone !?
Who use to live in your house to have a safe that big !!?

I don't know that there is a museum around here, but if we were to part with it we would probably sell it.

An antique collector. There was a whole bunch of stuff that I had no idea what some of it was. This is just the biggest thing.

Have you ever had it valued ?
Not really I looked up similar stuff and it seemed like $800-900 range, but I would expect that. I might clean it up and see if it's as difficult to have when it's not dusty. Lol

Mr. Duck thought about using it as a gun safe, but there's no way we're getting it down in the basement.

It looks like the top shelves were for storing files or something.

I asked AI months ago what I should do with it and it suggested tea cabinet but that's... Just too many cabinets.

Now I feel like I wasted time posting this.

I figured out what to do with it. I fixed my problem with another problem. I didn't know where to put all of our books, so I decided it's a library now and I might put my sewing machine on the bottom.

Sorry it took me months to figure this out and then didn't figure it out until after posting it.

Looks pretty good as a bookshelf.

The two lower metal compartments: Is that the safe itself? Is it useable?
Yes, and it locks. I don't know if I have the key but I have a key that (kind of) works.

I don't know how it works. If I remember right it's for a Samsonite train case I lock up my makeup in. (keeps the away the disasters of a young child making a mess of the house with blush)

I betcha it's still darn heavy!
Extremely.. I think it's steel. Mr. Duck had to move all of his weight to push it back after moving the bars. It had about an inch left and I couldn't push it AT ALL. I wasn't going to press him anymore about it after he did all that for me, so I just said, "Nevermind." hlf

It can stay there.

You didn't say whether or not you could get into the safe. If you don't want to use it yourself, I think you ought to try to sell it. (Someone might want it.) Or give it away. Or pay to have someone take it away, if that doesn't cost too much.

Yes, I can use the bottom.

The shelf on #8 is the safe itself. We took all the drawers out, pulled out the bars, and the bottom safe that locks is where the sewing machine goes.

I get a really cool bookcase and I don't have to look at the ugly safe anymore. (saved all of the pieces though)
