Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day in America. A national holiday. (as we say)

I wanted to add something to my traditional dinner (supper) blessing prayer.

A few weeks back our Pastor had an interesting question:

If tomorrow, all you had
was what you were thankful for today,
what would you have tomorrow?

Then I continued with my typical (traditional) dinner prayer of blessing.

Father God,
Thank you for all your blessings today.
And thank you for the food on our table.
Bless the hands that have prepared it.

In your name, AMEN.

What is your traditional (or nontraditional) dinner prayer?

Oh, my... ???

Has the practice of giving thanks before a meal gone the way of the dinosaur?

What about a daily family gathering around the table? No more?

Christians giving thanks when out at a public restaurant?

Are we thankful for ANYTHING! ???

My brother-in-law was fond of this grace, so my wife claims:

Good food,
Good meat.
Good God,
Let's eat!
LOL
That's funny, but it makes a mockery of giving thanks.

What will brother-in-law say when there is no food on the table?

We used to say grace before eating in restaurants, under the theory that we are demonstrating our faith publicly. "Let your light shine before men". But that's praying to be seen by men (Matthew 6:5), which is the wrong motivation. So, we don't do that anymore.

What is your traditional (or nontraditional) dinner prayer?
Okay, now that I've primed the pump with a few appends...

My traditional family grace follows this format:
  • Thanks for this day. (Our very existence comes from God.)
  • Special thanks (or sometimes requests) appropriate for the occasion and circumstances
  • Thanks to God for loving us. (He doesn't have to, you know.)
  • Thanks for the food we are about to receive
  • In Jesus's name, amen.
When the Sweet Lady leads grace, she has some of her own unique touches, most notably the recognition that all things ultimately come from God.

I have a lot to be thankful for, and...I (almost) always give thanks before the meal. Well, 99% of the time, sometimes I forget and start eating too fast! My prayer usually goes about like this...

Lord I give thanks for the food I am about to receive.
Please bless our food and make it rich in nutrition and clean to eat so that nothing will harm me or my dog in it.
And Bless you Father for providing it for us
You never fail us with my daily bread.
I like Peanut butter Lord, I have no complaints. I bet the peanut butter in heaven is even better!
In Jesus name I pray, thank you.../

I always remember that in the OT and the Lord was feeding them manna in the desert that they started complaining and murmuring about it, and they made God mad! God don't like hearing people complain so I do like to say, no complaints Lord! Some days it is thanks for the steak Lord! Other days it might be peanut butter, lol! But so what? I have so much good food to look forward to in Heaven!

How good will the heavenly jelly preserves be in heaven? No trash or chemicals or anything, just pure food and good food. And it's not even about food, it's about the one who owns the Orchard! It is because of Him. So all that stuff will be added unto us in heaven anyway.

I say, any day we have three meals provided is a good day. AMEN

It's hard to buy real food anymore. It's all poisoned. Our choice is between poison #1 and poison #2, oh look poison 2's on sale today I guess we buy that one.

I think it's important to bless the food so it wont harm you with it's poisons.

And look it up, almost all food will kill your dog nowadays! I dont know how I ever had live dogs before when I didnt get a concern about it. Feed it to the dog if he dont like it, he wont eat it. So that must be a lie that all food is bad for your dog. I think too many people stopped buying commercial dog food for the prices and have been feeding their dogs people food so they want to scare people into believing that they have to buy their commercial food after all, we know you love your pets and want to buy the best for them! Don't make me laugh. People in ancient times before commercial food was on the market fed their dogs? With what? People food, scraps! So I bless my dogs food too and buy less and less commercial food poison. That parts easy, have you seen price of dog food lately?! Lol.

It don't really matter what we eat on earth. Enough to live for the day is all. Who cares what it is? We are in the field right now and we will get fed better as soon as we go home again so be patient and eat what you can, but bless it for sure that it does not harm you or your pets.

And they can drink any deadly poison and they will live...right? But words have the power of life and death, so if you arent blessing your food out loud and declaring the blessing...you might be taking a chance?

I guess I get 3 meals a day for one week each month, lol. By the end of the month it's one meal a day!

But man does not live by bread alone but by every word that God has spoken. So I am thankful for even one meal a day. A good meal, the Lord takes good care of me in the field. Better days are ahead, but I've been hearing that famine is coming to the earth.

There wont be any food in the stores. You'll have to cook your last pack of bacon in the attic so you dont stink up the neighborhood with bacon and draw fire from looters!

How many of you posters use a pantry in your home? Pantry's are good. If you want to store food live like the cowboys did. They had to feed them selves. Grow some food, stock flour and dry beans and rice and sugar and salt and stuff like that that keeps without refrigeration! (grid might be down?) and then take small game for the pot.

But I dont think it's a good idead to buy that food in the buckets that keeps for 25 years or whatever for hundreds of dollars per bucket. All it is is dehydrated food that is vacuum packed. So buy a dehydrator and a vacuum sealer instead. That's how I think.

At some point I think we all would be grateful for one meal a day. And dont forget to store up a little extra for the people and kids that, will show up needing help!

Don't close your eyes when you pray, or the food might not be there when you open them.

I hear you brother! But my dog is very polite about food, he just dont like to take time to say grace! He has not ever taken food off of my plate, I tested him a couple times and he wont. He wont even enter my kitchen when he can hear me making some food for him. He might come to the door way but then he goes 1/2 way up the stairs and waits until I come and tell him ok go get it, then he goes. He's very polite about it. I like that.
