There is only one good news I know of. That is that Yeshua, paid and taken care of all peoples sins, died on the cross, and was risen in justification of this by his Father's Holy Spirit. This good news had a lot within the context in that generation, concerning the Lord Yeshua coming back, and promises which were made to them. Today, the great news is the victory of Christ has been had over all things, and its now a choice to have faith in God and follow after him or choose not to because even hell has been done away. People have the choice to desire to be within the kingdom, through faith, or outside the kingdom through non-faith. All of us will be judged, and rewards met out as Yahavah will.Screenshot 2024-11-21 042306.png There is only one good message, or "Gospel."

show me 2 gospels.
Show them both to me.

In his own words, this summarizes Paul's understanding of "The Gospel":

This is Jesus's summary, in His own words:

Mark+1:14-15.jpg
There you go.

Homework assignment: What do YOU think "The Gospel" is? Can you express it in a sentence or two?

It seems that you have failed to do that.

What's your beef with Paul and his gospel?

What about the gospel of Apollos?

1 Corinthians 3:5 NIV
What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants,
through whom you came to believe
as the Lord has assigned to each his task.

Makes one curious about who this Apollos was, and what he taught.

His message is in the word my friend, I suggest you check it out.

If we rely on Jesus words to define the gospel message, there are a whole myriad of gospels.

  • Matthew 13:24
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.

  • Matthew 13:31
He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.

  • Matthew 13:33
He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

  • Matthew 13:44
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

  • Matthew 13:45
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

  • Matthew 13:47
“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.

  • Matthew 13:52
He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

  • Matthew 18:3
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

  • Matthew 18:23
“Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.

  • Matthew 20:1
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.

  • Matthew 22:2
The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.

  • Matthew 25:1
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

There's a question to keep the theologians up at night: What did Jesus mean by the "Kingdom of God"? Is it still relevant today, or was it a first-century Jewish aspiration of an earthly kingdom? The "two gospels" advocates usually take the latter position.

Apparently there were differences between what Apollos taught and the others.
Disciples were siding with different leaders. I count four gospels here.

1 Corinthians 1:12 NIV
What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”;
another, “I follow Cephas[a]”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

This is telling.

Matthew 12:28 NIV
But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

And the term "Kingdom of Heaven" seems to be used interchangeably. More gospels?

I don't think I ever got an answer to my question about
why we would limit the gospel message to one gospel.
But I suppose this is the fear. (another gospel) Which was the idea of gentiles being under the law of Moses.

Galatians 1:6-9 NIV
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one
who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—
7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you
into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than t
he one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!
9 As we have already said, so now I say again:
If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted,
let them be under God’s curse!

Denominationalism started pretty early, didn't it?

There was probably a sign outside somebody's house:

Makes one curious about who this Apollos was, and what he taught.
Some quick Wiki research indicates that he knew only of the Baptism of John. (initially)

Acts 18:24-26 NIV
Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus.
He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures.
25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord,
and he spoke with great fervor[a] and taught about Jesus accurately,
though he knew only the baptism of John.
26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue.
When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home
and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

--- COMPARE ---

Acts 19:1-7 NIV
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior
and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples
2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
John’s baptism,” they replied.
4 Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance.
He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”
5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them,
and they spoke in tongues[b] and prophesied.
7 There were about twelve men in all.

That one's curious.

Looks like there ARE consequences to doing Baptism wrong.

Comedian Allen Sherman wrote in his book, The Rape of the A*P*E*, that he thought of starting his own religion. He first elected himself God. Then he had to decide what commandments his new religion should have. Ten is a lot and some of them are pretty hard to keep, so he decided to have only one commandment and make it the most absurd thing he could think of: THOU SHALT NOT STUFF 47 TENNIS BALLS IN THY TOILET. He then called a stone mason and asked him to engrave it on a stone tablet. The mason refused.

"Why not?", Sherman asked. "Are you afraid people will start stuffing 47 tennis balls in their commodes?

"No", said the mason. "The righteous will stuff 46 tennis balls in their toilets. The sinners will stuff 48. Hopeless degenerates will stuff 49. If this religion of yours catches on, there won't be a working place to take a dump in the entire Western Hemisphere."

Yes. But we have to ask HOW serious are the consequences?
Paul still called them disciples.

I love Paul's question to the Ephesian disciples of Apollos. (assuming)
“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?” - Acts 19:2

What evidence did Paul have to ask this question?
They weren't missing only one baptism.
They were missing two baptisms.
1) The baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Father Son and Holy Spirit) ???
2) The Baptism with the Holy Spirit. ("When Paul placed his hands on them,
the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[b] and prophesied.")

You got zero friend. ACTS 10 shows you the gospel to the gentiles came first through Peter.

Acts 10 shows that God told Peter to eat what Peter thought was "unclean", and God is teaching Peter that the Gentiles can be saved.

So, this is 10 yrs after Jesus is back in Heaven, and Peter didnt know that the Cross of Christ was ALSO for the Gentiles.

Peter didnt understand Salvation.........So God was teaching him, and in Acts 15, Paul taught Peter the True Gospel......Which is Paul's.

No Holy Spirit? That sounds consequential.

We don't have anybody speaking in tongues at our church.
The Baptism with the Holy Spirit is a subsequent experience.
Not needed for a renewed relationship with God. Not a "salvation" issue. IMHO
Every believer has the indwelling Spirit.

You probably have closet tongues-speakers at your church.
Does anyone raise their hands in worship? (prime suspects) - LOL

Is Jesus then irrelevant, except as an atoning sacrifice?

"Shut up about that Kingdom of God stuff already, Jesus, and get up on that cross where you belong!" Sounds faintly blasphemous.

Speaking of "cans"...

Can you name the four biblical cities/countries that define the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?

...some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” in what city? - What happened in each of these cities helps to define the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. - What elements do we find in each city that contributes to a complete understanding?

What is the initial evidence of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?

...hadn't the baptized believers in Samaria received the Holy Spirit? The typical response to the question about the initial evidence of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit, is tongues. But when I read the book of the Acts of the Apostles, I see it is not limited to tongues. I conclude that any...

Why hadn't the baptized believers in Samaria received the Holy Spirit? (2)

Why hadn't the baptized believers in Samaria received the Holy Spirit? Just to be clear, I do not question whether the believers in Samaria had received the "indwelling" Spirit when they believed. They were missing something else. Acts 8:14-17 NIV When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that...

I can put a name to that one guy in my church who raises his hands in worship. :Broadly:

They tell the story the guy who was so moved during worship he stood up and shouted, "PRAISE GOD!". An usher came over to him and said, "Sir, you're going to have to settle down. This is a (Presbyterian/Lutheran/Baptist/Methodist/Catholic) church. We don't 'Praise God!' here."

Is Jesus then irrelevant, except as an atoning sacrifice?

Here is how you understand the answer to your question.

Every NT verse, that is given... .that happens before the Cross of Christ, has to be seen in Light of the Cross.

So, when Jesus says...(before He dies on The Cross".... "if you keep my words, you are my disciple".... and that is all you are.....

But then AFTER the Cross is Raised, when You BELIEVE by Faith, in Jesus as your Atoning Sacrifice, then you are not just a disciple, you are become a born again SON/Daughter of God..

See it?

"Shut up about that Kingdom of God stuff already

Jesus said "the KOG is within you".. so, that is...

"Christ IN YOU... the hope of Glory" (Glory is heaven).

This means that to be IN the KOG, is to be born again INTO IT.........as "IN CHRIST" as "ONE with GOD", and then the believer is now "seated in Heavenly places".... = having bee "Translated from Darkness ... TO LIGHT">

See that "LIGHT"?
THat is the KOG.
That is.. "God exists IN LIGHT">..
That is.. "JESUS is THE LIGHT of the WORLD..
That is..all the born again exist in the KOG, as "CHILDREN...of THE LIGHT".
