Yahushua declared Himself as “Master of the Sabbath”. No scripture said that He had or would change the Sabbath, even after His death. Yahushua kept the commandments and came to set us an example. (John 8:55, 1 Peter 2:21-22). In fact, Yahushua expects His followers in these last days to be praying about the Sabbath and keeping it:

Greetings Walter and Debbie,
No scripture said that He had or would change the Sabbath, even after His death.
Gentile Christians are under no obligation to keep the Sabbath. Christ is the True Sabbath and we find our rest in Him.

Matthew 11:25–30 (KJV): 25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Kind regards
Trevor

This is an excellant subject Brother. I was thinking along these lines recently when I found this again:

Luke 4:16
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.../KJV

Some versions say stood to teach. (same thing). So what do we do with small bit of information? Look for the implied biblical principle? Consider how we may apply this to our own lives and walk? Sounds like a good place to start.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus (and the Father), their very essence. I think that's evident. Now us earth bound Christians have literally become the Temple of the Holy Spirit, right?
Jesus's custom was to go to the Temple and read to the people and teach the people. We also know that scripture says that, the Lord does not change. Ever. So I believe it is reasonable to assume that, Jesus still has the custom of going to the Temple to preach on the sabbath! That is us. Is it not? Yes it certainly is us, we are the Temple now. And if the Lord doesnt change then He will be there on thee sabbath wanting to teach and preach! Inside of us.

Do you keep the sabbath? Most people dont. Lots of reasons. I had to work, that was OT thing and doesnt apply to us anymore, blah blah blah.

I keep the sabbath sometimes. Rather, I try to in my heart because I know that we cant close the Temple services on the Sabbath when Jesus came to teach! I had to work Lord...Uh-huh...Sorry Jesus, no services today. That's rude if you think about it. And I'd never want to be rude to Jesus, so I try to keep the Sabbath open. I discovered that the Sabbath is a great day to fast because when we fast we focus on God more than usual day to day life, which might be at least a show of respect for the Lord.

But I dont even know how to "keep the Sabbath" in an orthodox way. I have no clue and I wonder if that is ok to Jesus as long my intentions in my heart are with Him, though lacking in orthodoxy? I think prolly so? Hey, Maybe Jesus will speak on this very subject next Sabbath at His service?!!

I hope that's on topic, lol.

I was a pastor for 27 years and worked hard on Sunday, but I worshiped on that same day. I rested on Mondays. Now, I thoroughly enjoy worshiping and resting on the same day. It's our personal and communal relationship with God that's important to him, not other, more-superficial matters, like which day is which.

27 years huh? Wow, and I picked up a wrench, lol. I asked Jesus one time where would I be now if I hadnt backslidden all those years? (I thought it was a good question!)

His answer blew my mind, He said, right where you are now../ I had to let that one sink in, and I also learned that partaking in Communion is a lot deeper than drinkng a wee bit of wine and eating a wafer. A lot deeper, it is Communion with Him. I'm not sure what happens in the Kingdom realm when we partake of the wine and wafer, but it has to be something significant. Do you have any idea what it is?

I don't think there's anything mystical or magical that happens. The Holy Spirit is involved to visibly remind us of the truth that Jesus' death was done for us believers in order to fortify and focus our faith.

I didnt say mystical or magical, lol. I said spiritual!

I've come to the conclusion that every action we take in the flesh has profund effects in the spiritual realm. For example, prayer. When we pray for someone, we dont get to see what happens but we (usually) get to see the results. Like in Daniel, Gabriel told Daniel when he bagan to pray he was dispatched to go and explain to Daniel. So Daniel's prayers did have an effect in the spiritual realm! and so do ours.

God's gift to us was the Sabbath.

That there are any calling on Christ who are opposed to Sabbath because they think it's exclusively of the Jews,Jewish, is telling imo.

Next thing? The thread question, was Jesus Jewish?

Lordy.

Odd because from today's devotional reading comes Ex 31:12, 15

The LORD said to Moses ... whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall be put to death.

That seems like THE EXACT OPPOSITE of superficial. :Ohz
