Nonsense. I don't hate the Bible... Or do I?

I do hate the misuse. And I warn about Bibliolatry.
I'm concerned about inflated (and false) claims about the book.
And the general ignorance about where the Bible came from.
Caused by a church that has suppressed the truth about it.
Probably because they think we would leave the church if we really knew.

Discussion questions:
1) What is the best reason to love the Bible?
2) What concerns do you have about the misuse of the Bible?
3) On a scale of 1 to 10 (low to high) how much do you know about where the Bible came from?
4) Thoughts on inerrancy and inspiration. ??? Of the original manuscripts, or our English translations?

Interesting topic SS….

I do hate the misuse. And I warn about Bibliolatry.
I understand why….there are things believed wholeheartedly in Christendom that have no basis in Scripture at all. The word of God has been misused and mistranslated to accommodate these false ideas.
The majority who identify as “Christians”, have been led to believe that the ones who have attended theological colleges and seminaries, with degrees after their names, know it all for them, producing spoon fed, lazy Christians who would not know the truth if it jumped up and bit them….

We are living in an age where there is no longer an excuse for ignorance….we have all the information we need now to do our own evaluation of what we were perhaps taught as children.
God is looking for us as much as we think we are looking for him (John 6:44; 65)…..the only difference is that he can read our hearts…..often we can fool ourselves, but we can never fool him. (Jer 17:10)
I'm concerned about inflated (and false) claims about the book.
The only claim it makes is that God inspired what we accept as Scripture. (2 Tim 3:16-17)
What “the church” originally ‘produced’ (and still accepts) contained more than what God wanted it to contain, adding books that had no place there. The accepted Bible we have today, leaves those apocryphal works out.
And the general ignorance about where the Bible came from.
Caused by a church that has suppressed the truth about it.
Probably because they think we would leave the church if we really knew.
I have to agree here….the Bible is NOT the work of any man in any denomination…..whom God used to compile it is of no consequence, since he can use even his enemies to accomplish his will.

The “church” who claims to have produced the Bible has never in its entire existence, done the will of God in any way. They have presented themselves in the same way as the Pharisees did in Jesus‘ day.…(Matt 15:7-9)…so full of hypocrisy that they had to hide the Bible away for many centuries so that no one one could ever check to see if what they served as doctrine had its origins there. (Acts 17:11)
Any wonder “sola scriptura” was rejected by them.

Discussion questions:
1) What is the best reason to love the Bible?
Its honesty…..its revelations concerning who God is….who Christ was, and is now…..and how his role as Messiah can benefit all mankind in the future…..and how the outworking of God’s purpose in putting human beings on this planet in the first place, is clearly outlined.
Seeing the Bible as one book, with one author, and one story……as a premise, is the best basis to start any meaningful Bible study. Go back to the beginning and start there….
2) What concerns do you have about the misuse of the Bible?
How men can twist the meaning of the original languages to suggest what Scripture does not teach is of greatest concern.
There is one truth….not many versions of it.

Only God can guide a genuine truth seeker to understand the Bible’s overall message…..to see what we lost in the beginning….why we lost it….and how God organized things for us to, not only get it back, but to ensure that this kind of rebellion can never surface again.
3) On a scale of 1 to 10 (low to high) how much do you know about where the Bible came from?
That is a bit of a loaded question, because the Bible only has one source…..it’s Author made sure that it’s message could never be taken away or hidden, even if humans messed with the wording…the message remained loud and clear. (Isa 55:11)
4) Thoughts on inerrancy and inspiration. ??? Of the original manuscripts, or our English translations?
Humans will do what humans do….but nothing humans do will alter God’s purpose, which he alluded to in the very beginning of human history. After the fall, the human race would descend into old age, sickness and death. Everything in us tells us that this is foreign…..we know in our heart of hearts that death was never meant to happen….the Bible tells us that God provided the means right from the start for humans to live forever in mortal flesh, right here on earth….but disobedience introduced death….(Gen 3:22-24)….after all the thousands of years of human history, death is still an “enemy” that must be fought with everything in us…..it never feels natural to lose a loved one, because it was never supposed to happen. We are programmed to go on living….if Adam had never sinned, death would never have happened to his children. (Rom 5:12)

If the earth was some kind of training ground, and humans were meant to live this awful life, then die and go to heaven, then death would be a blessing, rather than a dreaded curse.
Funerals would not then be places of mourning, but festivals of joy…..but we know the heartache of loss, and it never leaves us.

So, to me, minor things in the Scriptures that people want to use to disprove the Bible or to undermine its value and purpose, fall short, because the message can never be taken away…..because it is “the word of God”…..preserved to this day (despite intense efforts to destroy it) by the most powerful Being in existence.

Anyone who has ever prayed the Lord’s Prayer, has asked for ‘God’s Kingdom to come’, and for ‘God’s will to be done, on earth as it is in heaven’. How many people utter those words without ever knowing what they mean? That is the Bible’s message, right there…..God’s Kingdom will “come”, so that his will can be “done on earth as it is in heaven”. There will be peace and harmony in both realms when God has accomplished his purpose, but first his enemies had to be dealt with, with precedents created so that no rebel in the future will ever succeed……and God’s Universal Sovereignty is forever vindicated.

This is my hope, and the Bible is the entire reason for my faith as it explains everything I need to know.

How is it that the Bible is "the manifestation of the spirit of Christ"?

The Bible has a personality just like people do. When you read the Bible you see the mind of Christ, his personality, how he speaks, how he hides things from the world, how he reveals his word to his people, his perfection in language use, his sense of humor, his love, what makes him angry, what pleases him etc.

1. Because when it read it, it manifests the Holy Spirit.

2. Probbaly just how sp,e people ignore the most of the bible and what they dont ignore they twist it to mean something other than what it does.

3. 10. The Bible proves itself to be true because it wrote history before it began. We have about 40 authors who wrote 66 books over a period of 2000 or so years and it's more accurate than your best newscast, the best scientists, anything of mans. It tells history before it happens! That proves that it came from outside our time domain.

4. It doesnt matter what Translation you have because when you open the book and begin to read the Holy Spirit manifests and teaches you. The Bible is inerrant You have a tutor in the Holy Spirit, so those people who wont read it will be there on that the day of the GWTJ and the Lord will say, how is you do not know these things,? I gave you the Book of Truth AND a Tutor so you have no excuse. Well Lord you see some guy said there was mistakes in it so I figured I couldnt trust it....(Yikes!)

It has to be. I know this and posted my answer about it almost exactly how I. Rob did. Do you see the implication in that? In the mouths of two or three the truth shall be established. Of course the Holy Spirit would teach this truth to I. Rob and myself the same way. That's not called a coincidence. That was a Godincidence. Holy Spirit is a person. He is our Teacher. It isnt in the physical book, but the physical book is the Textbook for the Teacher in this University of Brotherly Love which is Gods and Man calls Earth. He's never late for class. Everytime you crack that book open He is manifest right there ready to teach, put thoughts into your head, makes you think about yourself and answer questions, brings scriptures to your head, alows you to see yourself within the biblical principles that are in the book. Like looking in a mirror sometimes Brother!

Don't be late for class! Sit up front and pay attention.

Cracking the Bible open does absolutely manifest the Holy Spirit.. Every time. Every Translation. Oh you got one of those versions that are missing verses? The Holy Spirit will teach you the material anyway that is not in your translation, lol! Then when class is over (you close the bible and stop reading), you take the learning and principles with you to ponder and apply to your life throughout the day.

If you're right, the Bible is superfluous. The HS can just miraculously impart info into your brain. That would be way more efficient!

Maybe somewhat because He is God but not necessarily I think. God is always all the way through scripture requiring our cooperation with Him. Right? If My people...So why would God gives us something that we didnt need?

The Lord wants to teach us who He is. The very essence of the Lord is contained within that book. Spiritually somehow. and the Lord is set it up so that we walk in faith in Him. He will not violate our free will. He said, Before you I have set life and death, therefore choose life.
(Brand new Christian!) Wow I Believe! What do I do now? Read the Book.

Read the Book. We have to cooperate and show our choice for Life in an action, thereby we have Belief. Let's look at a scripture:

John 14:26
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you..../KJV

Now it seems to me, that how can the Holy Spirit bring to our rememberance when we need it, something that we have never read? We make the choice to read and perform the Data Entry Clerk Task and it is in there! Even if it drops out of your short term memory, it is still in your brain! And the Holy Spirit can (and has done to me!) touch that scripture point in your subconscious and bring it right up for you! Doing that to me caused me not to do a bad thing before.

I didnt used to think like that, but reading the bible changes your heart. No Brother...in no way is the Bible superfluous.

That's the question. Was the Bible (New Testament canon) God's idea?
(since he didn't NEED a book to communicate with us)
Did God hand Adam a KJV Bible to communicate?
Enoch? Noah? Abraham?

Some say it has God's fingerprints all over it, I say it has humankind's fingerprints all over it.
God never touched it.

This confirms what @RedFan was saying.
None of those Jesus was speaking to had a Bible. (66 books)

--- PARODY TIME ---

KJO reader: This is what the Word of God says.
NIV reader: Let's compare the NIV translation.
KJO reader: WHAT! ??? That's a terrible translation!
NIV reader: Are you saying it isn't the "Word of God"?
KJO reader: The NIV left verses out of the Bible!
NIV reader: No, the NIV kept the same verse numbering system
but left out verses that didn't belong there in the first place.
KJO reader: THEY REMOVED VERSES FROM THE BIBLE !!!!
NIV reader: No, that's not what happened.
KJO reader: Yes it is what HAPPENED !!!
NIV reader: Show me one.
KJO reader: Here you go.
NIV reader: My footnote accounts for that.
KJO reader: Accounts for verses removed from the Bible? ???
NIV reader: The footnote says: It does not appear in any New Testament
manuscript prior to the end of the 6th century.
KJO reader: It's NOT the Word of God !!!!
NIV reader: Seriously?

Interesting that the Bible is "the Word of God", unless someone quotes a translation you disagree with.

Do you do that?

LOL
No, I understand perfectly well.

From the OP.

I have encountered some that I thought had fallen into this trap.
I asked them, "What would become of your faith if you put your whole library out on the curb on trash day?"

The guilty are left mostly speechless. Or, alternatively VERY angry. How come?

To be clear, I love the Bible and use it every day. But I know the difference between the book and the author.

In my experience, my relationship with the author is much more important than my relationship with the book.
Appropriate scriptures come to my mind all day long. Due to the work of the Spirit to quicken these things to my memory.

The Bible is not omniscient. (all knowing)
The Bible is not omnipresent. (everywhere present)
The Bible is not omnipotent. (all powerful)

The Bible does NOT love me.
It's paper and ink, maybe a leather cover. (or digital info)
That cow didn't die to pay my sin debt.

A true Bibliolator will demand chapter and verse to support my premise. - LOL

The bottom line:
Let's use the Bible to grow closer to God and each other, rather than as a weapon to destroy each other.

John 13:35 NIV
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Whoa, dunno where that came from. Anyway,
I have read the Bible completely through cover to cover at least 5 times, maybe 6, or not quite 6 yet? So I have entered all the word into my brain so the Holy Spirit will have no problem if I had to go without it.

Question: So if the bible is valueless to us and all wrong then why cant you hear the voice of God? Is he leaving you out? Did He forget about you? Why not?

I didn't claim that the Bible is valueless. I said it isn't a replacement for God. (idol)
Nor did I say that I can't hear the voice of God. Remember my testimony from 8 years old?
God spoke to me at a young age. @amadeus had a similar experience at 6 years of age.
Did God want us to have a Bible, or listen to Him directly instead? (cut out the blundering middlemen)
