I may be misunderstanding you but I think you are saying the 69 weeks are weeks of years but the 70th week is literally one week - 7 days. Am I understanding that right?

The "one week" is literally seven days. It is the final week of weeks of years that equal 490 years or 70 weeks of years.

I edited post #359 because Christ ushered in the 69th week not the 70th. The 70th week follows His death and resurrection when the Jubilee was observed.

That’s even stranger than the gap theory.

You wouldn't think so if you read the book by Christian Gedge "The Atonement Clock." Covanantee was kind enough to provide us a link if you're interested.

Bro, I'm looking at Chris's online Scholar's Edition of his epic The Atonement Clock. Is there any of that explanation in there?

I appreciate the offer but that’s not something I would be interested in.

That's too bad, because the extensive research he's done, and is proven through the Bible is second to none as he takes us through a kind of grid of sevens found throughout the Word of God. While I appreciate the in-depth work, he's put into showing us what can only be described as a clock that sets forth a series of sevens that prove the exact time the promised Messiah would come to make atonement for sin and give His life and resurrect from the dead to prove He has power over death.

Though I believe Chris makes a strong biblical case for finding the 'clock' hidden in sevens, I have to admit that I don't believe he's made the same strong biblical case for his understanding of Israel.

Messiah cut off took place after the first 69 weeks and before the 70th has begun.
What is this based on? There is no indication whatsoever that there would be any gaps between any of the 70 weeks. You are creating a gap between the 69th and 70th weeks in order to make it say what you want it to say. Messiah being cut off some time after the 69th week ended places the timing of His death within the 70th week.

You're right there is no gap between the 69th and 70th week like JLB seems to think. But there is an overlapping of the 69th and 70th weeks.

Your 70th week is decapitated, orphaned, and indeterminate.

But Scripture declares that "Seventy weeks are determined...".

For 70 weeks to be determined, the 70th week cannot be decapitated, orphaned, and indeterminate.

For 70 weeks to be determined, the 70th week must be contiguous with the 69th week.

Your 70th week is not contiguous with the 69th week.

Your 70 weeks do not qualify as determined.

Scripture's 70th week is contiguous with the 69th week.

Scripture's 70 weeks do qualify as determined.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

As we see from the scriptures, you have to Know therefore and understand the 70 weeks are made up of three distinct time periods.

seven weeks
sixty two weeks
one week

Seventy weeks are determined
For your people and for your holy city,
To finish the transgression,
To make an end of sins,
To make reconciliation for iniquity,
To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,
And to anoint the Most Holy.
Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
The street shall be built again, and the wall,
Even in troublesome times.
“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”
Daniel 9:24-27

Why are the 70 weeks separated into three distinct time periods?

sixty two weeks
one week

Which of the following was not accomplished within the 70 weeks of years prophesied?

As we see from the actual words of the prophecy the messiah cut off and the city and sanctuary destroyed occurred after the sixty nine weeks, and before the 70th week begins.

“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;

And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

All of it was fulfilled in 70 weeks. 70 weeks started with the ministry of John the Baptist and ended with the resurrection of Jesus.
This scripture says Messiah was cut off after the 69 weeks.

“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
Daniel 9:26

The prophesy also speaks about the city and sanctuary being destroyed which was in 70AD.

Yet the 70th week has not begun.

Jesus was cut off in the 70th week.

Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.

The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

As we see from the scriptures the Messiah was cut off after the 69th week. 33 AD
Next we see the city and sanctuary destroyed. 70 AD

These two distinct events were almost 40 years apart yet the 70th week is not yet mentioned.

Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.” Daniel 9:26-27

The 70th week of years cannot be divided from the 490 weeks of years when Messiah the Prince would come to fulfill the six things spoken in vs. 24. If we separate the one final seven years week from the 490 weeks of years, the things Messiah the Prince came to accomplish would be 483 weeks of years, not 490. And we must arbitrarily turn one week into around 40 years or an unspecified amount of time.

Why does Daniel separate the final one week (seven years from the full number of weeks of years prophesied)? Because when Christ went to the cross after seven weeks of years and sixty-two weeks of years (483 yrs.) He ushered in the final seventh week of years when the final Jubilee (every 50 years) was fulfilled through His atonement.

Why are the 70 weeks separated into three distinct time periods?

seven weeks
sixty two weeks
one week
Because certain things had to happen within the first 7 weeks (rebuilding of Jerusalem) and then it would be 62 more weeks before the Messiah would be revealed and then in the 70th week He would be cut off and would confirm the new covenant that replaced the old covenant and its animal sacrifices and offerings.

The idea that there would be a gap between the 69th and 70th weeks is not found anywhere in the text. There was no gap between the 7th and 8th weeks even though the 7 and 62 weeks are mentioned separately.

As we see from the scriptures, you have to Know therefore and understand the 70 weeks are made up of three distinct time periods.

This is not true. Your statement misses these time periods all but two of them are not linked. This is what you have stated: -

seven weeks
sixty two weeks
one week

I would suggest that the following is closer to what Daniel 9:24 states: -

  1. 490 weeks of years (verse 24)
  2. Seven weeks of years plus sixty-two weeks of years (verse 25)
  3. Then after the sixty-two weeks of years, where the gap is not specified. (verse 26a)
  4. Then later, for an approximate 2,000-year period, Jerusalem will be devastated and desolated. (Verse 26b)
  5. Then after a further 1,000-year period, there will be one week of years. (Verse 27)
We cannot read Daniel 9:24-27 without drawing information from other parts of the scriptures which fill in the gaps that exist in Daniel 9:24-27.

Not very studious people saw the first 490 weeks of years and then the 62 weeks of years coupled with the seven weeks of years and also the one week of years and concluded that because these three portions of the Daniel 9:24-27, nominally verses 25-27 also added up to 70 weeks of years that verses 25-27 must fit within the first 70 weeks of years, in verse 24, which is not explicitly stated within these scripture verses.

Sadly, to many people have jumped to this wrong conclusion and turn themselves inside out in their attempts to justify their flawed assumptions with respect to Daniel 9:24-27. They have ring fenced Daniel 9:24-27 and isolated the prophetic words given to Daniel from all of the other prophetic words that God has given us over many years, using many prophets, to convey to us what will happen during the last days of His prophetic words.

Shalom

Wow. This is nothing short of utterly ridiculous. You have gaps all over the place in the prophecy. You have an initial 490 weeks of years that come before the other 490 weeks of years. What nonsense. You definitely have an interpretation of the prophecy all to yourself. You're yet another lone wolf who arrogantly thinks that God reveals truth only to you.
