Hi everyone, must be one of my favourite verses:
John 8:59At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

Now, even Yeshua had to hide himself since obviously it wasn’t His time yet.

So, my question is should we sometimes hide things in our lives especially if we are unjustly persecuted. It happens even today in so called civilised countries, it can and sometimes does happen. Is that a form of lying? Are there times that lying is justified?
Let’s say undercover police, is that justified? Sometimes undercover police save lives literally by lying. What about the story of a good prostitute who in the Tanakh story hid Israeli spies?
Would you tell the truth even if that would mean that innocent life or lives would be lost?
Anyway, this is very important to me. I would really like to know your opinion!

Love and Thanks

Just to ad: or what about for instance when John the Baptist baptised Roman soldiers and he didn’t tell them quit your work, etc, etc. He preety much told them for instance to continue working but not to take more then what they are supposed to.

So I do believe that not everything is black and white, there are obviously stories that say that in some instances you do your best and what’s needed to stay in faith.

Love and Thanks

I've always thought it was supernatural.

The solution is found in Norman Geisler's book. He teaches a worldview that uses Graded Absolutes.

That's an interesting verse and I got a lot out of that one verse.

To reiterate:

John 8:59
59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by..../KJV

I think this has to mean that, Jesus blipped out so that He was invisible to them and He walked thru their midst, with noone seeing Him!

Think about it, you got 5000 angry jews wanting to throw you off the cliff, and your time is not yet. So you have to do something, and so He did. No one could find Jesus and so no one could throw Him off the cliff prematurely.

That was supernatural.

The time of Christ crucifixion was set its what he came to do.The prophecy had to be fulfilled his every step was planned and it happened exactly as it was meant to happen.Gods plan for salvation. His final days are the passion of Christ no one was going to stop him from making the sacrifice and it would be done exactly as God had planned.

In this conversation, Jesus has not only called His critics liars and children of the Devil (John 8:44), He has directly claimed the same name as God (John 8:58). If this is not true, it is blasphemy—the fact that these men so immediately picked up stones proves their opinion of which option applied (John 10:33). Scripture makes it clear that Jesus acts according to God the Father's schedule (John 7:6–8). And, at the same time, the Bible shows that God ensures that everything around Jesus complies with this timetable. This verse is another example of Jesus' enemies unsuccessfully attempting to arrest, detain, or kill Him (John 7:30, 45–46; 8:20).

Most of these "escape" occurrences are vague and are probably best interpreted in natural terms. Most likely, Jesus simply left or exited in such a way that His attackers failed to reach Him. In other cases, such as when He will be surrounded on a high ledge near the temple, there's a greater chance that His escape was enabled by supernatural means (John 10:23–24, 39). Whatever the case in this escape, Jesus has made His views on their hypocrisy and spiritual state very clear, and they have once again failed to silence Him (John 5:18; 7:1).
