Can you be priest without believing in god or taking the bible seriously?

a grave disappointment yesterday, speaking in private to an old retired priest- 80+ revealed to me that he doesnt take the bible seriously at all
i was shocked and unsure if i had to start rebuking him but he was so confident when he said that we make our own choices in life and we dont have to think of god or anything
and- that the bible is an old book and we live in new times

i believe i know for a fact now what righteous anger is, but also righteous disappointment.

then again, female priests are a thing here as well, ive heard one explanation that its because its statesponsored, so they get to put their antichrist standards into the church. so we will eventually be forced to have a jewish transgender feminist muslim priest as well
i hope when jesus comes back with a sword, that it will be a sharp sword...

I am sorry its taken you so long to learn what men like Whitclife, Ty Dale, Luther and so many others discovered.
The bible is rarely believed in big international church organisations.

What equally bad is that one has to be very discerning when attending small non denominational churches.

The purpose of a rebuke is in the hopes that someone will change their mind. He reached 80 living a lie, you wouldn't convince him of anything.

its protestant church, orthodox church here has a confusing schedule, and most of the time, no schedule at all sadly.

Just as a point of relative truth....

A person who studied at university about Medieval French Poetry is considered to be a wasted degree certification....the same can be considered as true for someone specializing in 5,700 year old Hebrew poetry.

People enjoy hearing what they wish to hear instead of what they want to hear. And the Gospel message is both insulting as well as good news all at the same time.

People love their illusions. A fake diamond or pearl necklace can be prettier than a real one. But the cost is vastly different. One is maybe a couple of hundred but the other can run into the millions.

We try, we live out our faith, perform any number of miracles, and yet we see charlatans "winning" converts regularly while we seem to lose constantly.

Such was the story of Elijah in 1Kings 19.

Might be time to find an "Elisha" or "Joshua" and make him an apprentice...even if it's an informal relationship. God is responsible for the results....not us.

I've had many apprentices over the years at work. They all knew who and what I was even if I never preached at them. They wanted what I had. They knew the path. And several availed themselves of it. Not all....but enough that it didn't go unnoticed. And when everyone else was getting laid off we still were working.
But when my Apprentices noticed that their whole lives were changing in positive directions...just because of the grumpy old man they worked with...well...things happen.
Don't expect a magic show. Expect the slow deliberate change. Because that's truth...not hype and emotionally fleeting change. Those decisions are reversed as easily as they were made.

I learned many years ago that not all so-called priests, vicars or bishops etc are born again. They may believe in God but do not have a relationship with him through Jesus which is vital.

hmm, not sure who or what youre saying i should see the change in- as i see it, theres no way back apart from judgement day. like a very old building that has FALLEN apart, society is fallen- and a demolition is required. only whats built on rock will stand after the blast, thats why i take religion extremely serious where more just take it as a vague guide- i have much to catch up to and judgement day may come a lot sooner than most will hope for

You cannot be a priest if you don't believe in God. As for the Bible, it quotes God and Jesus often - I guess it needs to be taken seriously.
