I'm saying, "old man", that is the Biblical terminology. You can also say "flesh",Once again, confusing the old man with 'self'.
If anyone cares at all about scripture really says, and not what they just think it says: it says nowhere that self is to be put to death, but that self is to be denied. Death to self is from the far eastern religions. As this new idea is sweeping the church, it makes me suspicious about where it is going.
Aren't you doing what you decry of others?Behold, if only you had ears to hear yourself.
You regularly use the phrase 'most christians' you clearly don't include yourself......what a toss!
The following common usage of yours 'Let me show you how' is not only condescending but it assumes you have the right and appropriate thing to say.
Taking stock, making more enquiry and recognising your arrogance errs on the side of wisdom.....hear it!
Hit the trenches my friend . yesterday is gone , tomorrow is not gauranteedI am observant of others and hopefully very aware of myself.
One Brother in particular has amazing self control that is @amigo de christo ....I have NEVER once seen him lose his rag on this forum....that is a fruit of Jesus Spirit.
I think this is a great topic and I'm thinking to stay with it.This is the Self Control thread?
I would sooner identify with the new man, that is who I am, that is my "self". And that is not to be denied. I'm to live out my new self. Or, rather, as "new self" or "old self" isn't actually Scriptural terminology, I'm to put on the new man, and put off the old man.Yes the old man or flesh must be put to death/crucified. This is our old life before we are in Christ. The new man is the new life. Nothing to do with our 'self'. Our self must be denied. It is that awareness of our inner being which follows after who is sitting on the throne of our hearts.
Who exactly is this "self"? I see in Scripture the old man and the new man. The old man is crucified with Christ, and we are become new. Who is the "self" in your thinking?Yes the old man or flesh must be put to death/crucified. This is our old life before we are in Christ. The new man is the new life. Nothing to do with our 'self'. Our self must be denied. It is that awareness of our inner being which follows after who is sitting on the throne of our hearts.
Agreed. That’s what I did years ago in this case and I affirm, the peace is incredible.either ignore the member who is upsetting you in your heart/ spirit...or do what I did, put them on ignore.
The peace one has is unbelievable and remember to pray for that persons troubled inner being..what comes out of their mouth tells a sad story...imo.
Things we are to "add" to our faith. I say, add, Peter uses a word that means "upon the chorus leader", which referred to their tradition that a rich patron would be tapped to supply what was needed for the next civic stage play, and the idea was, "You are rich, so don't scrimp! Give them all they need and then some!" It speaks of supplying with abundance.6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
WHAT BEAUTIFUL TRUTH SISTER .2 Peter 1:3-4
King James Version
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
any guesses on what the old man lived for . SINS and pleasures in life .I would sooner identify with the new man, that is who I am, that is my "self". And that is not to be denied. I'm to live out my new self. Or, rather, as "new self" or "old self" isn't actually Scriptural terminology, I'm to put on the new man, and put off the old man.
Paul, in Romans 7, wrote this way, identifying with the new man, saying, "it is no more I, but sin that lives in me", and, "in know that in me, that is, in my flesh, lives no good thing". The flesh had become something that Paul was not.
Much love!
i sure seem to notice your peace sure wont correct a man who is drowning in a lie of unbeliefAgreed. That’s what I did years ago in this case and I affirm, the peace is incredible.
We are all on a Spiritual journey and on different points along that journey. Sure, some threads are debate (doctrine) threads. Other threads are personal experience threads, like this one. No need to turn it into another “if you don’t have my doctrine, you are wrong and here’s why” thread. LOL.
If this is speaking towards fleshy appetites I must heartily disagree!"You might as properly and innocently lop off a limb from a body as eradicate any natural desire from the mind. All our appetites are in themselves innocent and useful, ministering to the general weal of the soul. They are like the elements of the natural world, parts of a wise and beneficent system; but, like those elements, are beneficent only when restrained."
