We put on the new man...so.
@1stCenturyLady ...can you explain this scripture?
>Colossians 3:9-10
Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—
The old man is "in the flesh"; the new man "in the Spirit." In the former "the works of the flesh" (
Galatians 5:19-21) are manifest; in the latter "the fruit of the Spirit" (
Galatians 5:22,23). One is "corrupt according to the deceitful lusts"; the other "created in righteousness and true holiness" (
Ephesians 4:22-24 the King James Version)
In Colossians the context is in the preceding chapter. It is about sin.
Colossians 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with
Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has
taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Romans 6:
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be
in the likeness of
His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that
our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been
freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For
the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but
the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Proverbs 23:5 For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.)12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members
as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members
as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
1 John 3:8-9
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might
destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and
he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
