Men have the freedom to do whatever they like... or so they believe. If and when they choose anything other than God they are moving in the wrong direction whether they see it or not:
Jos 24:15 | And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. |
Joshua was given to understand the only two real choices that any man has always had: Serve God or not.
Jeremiah tells us how it is for the man who is essentially directing
or trying to direct his own way:
Jer 10:23 | O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. |
Man may be going what he calls his own way,
but not in God. If it is not in or for God is not against God? Consider these verses:
Ro 8:31 | What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? |
Lu 9:49 | And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. |
Lu 9:50 | And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. |
We do choose Him, but if we are not serious in our direction toward Him will He ever choose us? Choosing Him is ultimately meaningless if He does not choose us!
Jesus chose 12 disciples who would be apostles, but there was one who...
Joh 17:12 | While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. |
God has, I believe, foreknowledge, of man's choice, but man makes his choice to let God lead the way or not... If God is not leading, look out!
