And He does the separating?

That is specific to Paul not us.

[26] But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. [27] For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

No a biblical one as Paul was set apart from the womb to be used by God for a specific biblical purpose much like John the Baptist . Not everything in the Bible applies to you . Hermeneutics 101.

How do I learn too pick and choose what I want to apply to me?
