There is a baptism of the Holy Spirit but it doesn't require you to speak in tongues. Some say only the Apostles had the power to baptize believers with the Holy Spirit by laying on hands.Oh I do know that Jesus did command us to get baptized, and boy did I get wet! in the middle of a very cold winter too, brrrr.
My mother switched us to Lutheran when I was like 13 or 14. I also did get baptized as an infant in the Catholic church but, I don't remember that of course!
I agree that when we proclaim Christ outwardly when being water baptized we also receive His Spirit because we repent before being baptized (Don't think you believe that tho). Far as the baptism of the Holy Spirit, I cannot really say much as I do not and never have spoken in "tongues", my conversion was without sensationalism, no flames of fire over my head, no mass healings and driving out of demons just an orderly gentle and sweet event. Did try a Pentecostal church once and they really tried hard to push me over (slain in the Spirit, NO WHERE in the bible) All spoke gibberish at the same time, chaos.
Thank you for the reply.

@Charlie24 what do you think about rebaptizing? (See, for example, the Anabaptists.)
The premise of your question is flawed.
Constraint of history: Paul is a Jew.
Constraint of history ignored: Paul is a Roman Catholic. (Or a Muslim. Or a Hindu. Or a …).

Saul was a Jew but Paul is a Christian when he was baptized into the new catholic Christian covenant acts 22:16
Christ is the founder and mediator of the catholic Christian new covenant
Neither were the Apostles and Peter wasn't the first Pope.Neither Christ nor Paul are Roman Catholic.

Act 8:14![]()
¶
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Act 8:15
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
Act 8:16
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Act 8:17
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Why couldn't Phillip lay hands on them, why did they have to send Peter and John?
But in the case of Cornelius no one laid hands on them. The Holy Spirit just fell on them. So how do we receive this baptism?
Luk 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Just ask the Father.
I went to Churches that practiced those things but I experienced something just by raising my hands and praying. No one laying hands on me or pushing me. I saw a lot of excess and questionable things. But the decision to finally surrender my life to God was a conscious one and not the result of any experience. I was a Youth Pastor in a non denominational Church and it was considered Charismatic but there wasn't any emphasis on speaking in tongues and you didn't have the excess you see in a lot of "Spirit Filled" Churches. I go to a Church now that doesn't practice any of those things. I believe God will supply us with everything we need if we ask and trust him.Oh I have for sure asked Him many times. Thinking it is a faith thing like, having to believe without signs and wonders...IOW, believing without seeing or experiencing?
Many believe someone is not saved without the "evidence" of tongues as you know, early on in y infancy this teaching had me in all kinds of fretting, even to the point of faking tongues! But, thank God, only for about a year then onto a more orderly church.
Either way, nobody laid hands on me to receive the Holy Spirit, I simply assumed He came during conversion, after repentance. Still carry around doubt![]()
Neither Christ nor Paul are Roman Catholic.
Inwardly (Romans 2:29).
