I'm no theology expert but I'll answer as best as I can. I believe if we keep on willfully sinning we may be in danger of being cut off from Christ,.

"willfully sinning" is proven by ... do you confess sin.
Have you confessed sin, this year, last year, last week.

See that?
So, that is not, what Hebrews is talking about, as Christian's, most, are continually confessing sin, until they stop being baby Christians and learn what the "One time eternal sacrifice of Jesus", has completed and accomplished for them.
Or as Jesus said from the Cross...>it is FINISHED".

The "willful" sin, you find in Hebrews 6 and 10, is not being committed by CHRISTIANS.
Its being committed by HEBREWS, who are rejecting JESUS as their MESSSIAH, when PAUL is preaching to them, the GOSPEL.
And they are "willfully sinning" the sin of CHRIST REJECTION< which is the unpardonable sin, as there is no more pardon for that one, = you can't reject the Sacrifice of CHRIST and the Sacrifice remain for you, nor can it be applied to you.
In other words, these HEBREWS were rejecing God's PARDON, and did so WILLFULLY.

They did the same again in Acts 28, and Paul was again talking to a group of Christ Rejecting HEBREWS. (JEWS).

Looking at the context, it is talking to believers (Jewish believers, yes) in context of provoking and exhorting each another to good works (as opposed to sinful). Unbelievers have not received knowledge of the truth.

Heb 10:22-27

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised) ;

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

For if we (continue to) sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

May I just say this, that in terms of the "once saved, always saved" concept, I wonder if we need to consider that some scriptures are written from heaven's perspective and others are written giving an earthly human perspective. For example, we know that from our earthly point of view Jesus was crucified at a certain point of time in the first century. But from heaven's perspective it says in the bible the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world. When it comes to souls, in the Lord's foreknowledge, He knows ahead of time who will remain in Christ and who will fall away. Concerning those who fall away and do wrong in God's sight, from His heavenly perspective He never knew them, but from the stand point of human experience in time, each individual has their part to play in whether we will remain faithful to do God's will or not. I hope that might be helpful, it's a hard thing to put into words.

Looking at the context, it is talking to believers .

It is absolutely not talking to believers, in those verses.
The CONTEXT is ......"willfull unbelief".

BELIEVERS, have already BELIEVED< and Paul would not be trying to get them to BELIEVE.
See, you dont preach the CROSS to the CHOIR.
Understand?
There is no need.

See it?

Paul is trying to get these Christ Hating HEBREWS, in the book of HEBREWS to Trust in their MESSIAH< and they will not have it.
And he tells them......"if you dont, there is no more Sacrifice for you, as you have rejected it".. You have spit on the Cross. You have done despite to the Spirit of Grace. You have CRUCIFIED CHRIST AFRESH.....
See that?
To Crucify Christ AFRESH< is to REJECT HIM..... as that is what their FATHERS's did......they REJECTED THEIR MESSIAH all the way to the CROSS.

And now these HEBREWS are doing the same, and Paul is being very harsh with them, as they are committing the unpardonable sin.

Now, read ACTS 28, the last 10 verses.
Paul is dealing again with CHRIST REJECTING JEWS. (Hebrews)

"If we keep on sinning willfully after that we have received knowledge of the truth....." This is quite plainly exhorting those who have received knowledge of the truth (ie, believers), to not deliberately and knowingly commit sins that they know they shouldn't. It's talking about sinning AFTER coming to faith....the scripture itself says so.

If we're always judged by the letter of the law without mercy that's like a judge automatically throwing the book at a defendant without considering any of the mitigating facts in the case.
.
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

Are you saying God would be an unjust judge for automatically judging someone an adulterer, while committing adultery? He has first to consider mitigating facts during the act of adultery?

Jesus is not our defense attorney to argue our side of the case against God's judgment, but rather He is our advocate to ask for forgiveness of them already judged guilty by transgressing the law of Christ, if we confess our sinning with godly sorrow.

James wrote that we "offend in many ways all"....inadvertent sins/offenses just because we are human.

My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
James was not speaking of personally sinning against the law, such as above in respect of persons, killing, and adultery.

James was speaking of the wisdom of Christian babes and novices not seeking to be instant teachers of the law and doctrine of Christ, and doing more harm than good.

From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

Christians can become destroyers of the faith by becoming false teachers, prophets, and apostles. By entering into ministry unwisely and without the personal calling of the Lord Jesus, good and faithful Christians can destroy themselves and others in the process.

Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.

No pulpit is better than a bad pulpit.

I consider the Law this way: that it's part of scripture given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. As part of the word of God, when we keep it and hide it in our hearts, it will help to keep us..
All Scripture is of God and good and spiritual and profitable for instruction and wisdom in righteousness, but not all Scripture is the making of law of God.

The law of Christ is specifically His commandments to keep, which begins with loving God with all the heart, and our neighbors as ourselves, and the points of law to not transgress, as shown above in James 2.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

The law defines what sinning against God is in detail, it codifies the list of don'ts, though shalt nots.

There are those who say the law of God written in letters of ink on paper is dead and no longer exists to judge sin, so that no one can now sin against any law of Scripture on paper.

That is a lie to excuse such sinning against the law as written in James 2 and elsewhere in Scripture, such as the works of the flesh, and the unrighteous that shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

The Law is given to direct you to the Cross so that you can be "delivered from the Curse of the Law", as "the Law is the power of sin".
If you teach that beleivers are supposed to be under the law, when "Christ has delievered the born again from the Curse of the Law", then you are literally spitting on the Cross and denying the Grace of God as Christ has delivered it by His Death and Resurrection.

Yes, the Law is still in effect but only for sinners.

We are delivered from the Law.

However, when we backslide, we go back under the Law as we fall back into habitual sin.

Thats one way.
Another way and more common is for a believer to "fall from Grace".. And that is the person you hear from on all christian forums, and in about 90% of Pulpits who is trying to decieve you into the idea that Salvation is only as good as you are..
In other words, they teach that Jesus started your salvation, but you have to finish it by being good enough for God to accept.
Thats the Heretic, the Legalist, the Devil deceived LIAR.

Well, our obligation to stay free from the Law is to walk in the Spirit...

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Which logically means that those Christians which are NOT led of the Spirit are under the Law.

Obeying Acts 2:38 initially delivers us from the Law, but walking in the Spirit keeps us from going back to the Law.

If we are born again, we are "in Christ", and "one with God".
This never changes.
What does change, for some, is their perspective of how they go to heaven.

See, Legalsim, boiled down to the nut, is....."i dont trust Christ alone to get me into heaven"

So what is left, for that person?

= SELF EFFORT., which is literally to deny that Jesus is their Salvation.
Their faith in Christ is BROKEN, because its NOT THERE anymore.

They have FLIPPED, theologically, and faith wise, into ....>"here is what i have to do, have to maintain, and be careful not to do, so that i can get myself into heaven, if i get all those do's and don't do's right".

And this heretic, will have a LIST......of those SELF EFFORTS to try to SAVE THEMSELVES, as they do not TRUST in CHRIST ALONE, for their Salvation.

Here is a partial heretic's list of : SELF SAVING

1 Water Baptism
2. Law
3. enduring to the end
4. commandment keeping
5. abiding
6. confessing sin.

Its not the law that causes you to drink, deny christ and practice sin.
Those are the result of dead faith.

Whereas the result of a believer being under the law, is that they are sinning and confessing and can't stop, and they believe they can lose their salvation.

The Law describes and condems sin, right?

If I practice those sins, is it the Law that condemns me?

Or is it nothing that condemns me?

Are you born again?

Then your body is "dead because of sin" and your "Old man is crucified with Christ".

So, as that is the TRUTH regarding a "new Creation in Christ"... what is available for the LAW to condemn?

See, your SPIRIT< which is the real you, is "In Christ" "One with God" if you are born again, and not just water baptized thinking you are saved.

Notice Romans 4:8. Paul teaches that God does not charge SIN against the Born again.
Why?
He can't, as He has already Judged CHRIST on the CROSS for them all.
God does not "double judge".... He does not judge a born again believer, for sin that Jesus has DIED FOR already.

So, when someone is learning about what it means to become a "new creation in Christ" and they find out that their SIN is gone, and their Judgment due them is on JESUS........ the devil comes to them, through a person, or to their mind and says...>>"they are telling you that you can sin and there is no consequence, because Jesus paid for it all".

See that? THAT is how the DEVIL works.

And here is the answer to that LIAR...

ALL SIN is resolved by JESUS's on the Cross. 2 Corinthinians 5:19. """"God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their SIN unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.""""

So, there go your sins. = Jesus bore them all.

Now, if you decide to live in the flesh, and continually commit works of the flesh.
Here is what happens.
You will suffer down here.
You'll lose everything.....including your health, and if you wont stop, even after God corrects you, time after time, .. Paul says you will DIE.

So, there is you EARTHLY consequence for "living in sin, as a Christian"........as that is what is known as "sowing and reaping"., and that is a spiritual law that as not taken away by The Cross of Christ.
However, that is not God judging you for sin, as He has already judged JESUS for them all.

I obeyed Acts 2:38.

If I go back to practice sinning as I used to, I cannot fall from Grace and go back to the Law?

Is there a "limbo" or "living purgatory" we enter in if we backslide.

Does Jesus simply ignore sin in a saints life?

I just wrote a Thread, thanks you to, regarding that Question..
Thank for the inspiration, as i stated it as an answer to you, then just expanded it for the benefit of those that study their bible.

What happens to the SINNING : Christian

So, understand that falling from Grace, is not to return to sin, but its to lose the correct understanding of How God SAVED you., which is the result of broken faith.

Paul says that to lose this understanding is to become.....>"Bewitched", and "in the Flesh"

I asked you to read ACTS 28, the last 10 verses.
If you will do this, you will find that Paul is AGAIN......AGAIN, talking to UNSAVED JEWS who are rejecting their MESSIAH.

Remember now.....>Paul is preaching the Gospel to HEBREWS, in the book of HEBREWS.
Paul is not stupid. He would not be trying to get you to BELIEVE, if you have already believed, and He knows that if you are in Christ, you will stay there.
So, He is not preaching the Gospel to the born again, in the book of Hebrews, in Chapter 6 or 10.

Im a preacher, and i dont preach the Gospel to the SAVED.
Understand?
Neither does Paul.

I see some truth on both sides of the OSAS debate...both sides make some excellent points if only each side would acknowledge that now and again, we might eventually be able to reconcile some of what appear to be contradictions but are not really.

I have read Acts 28 and see Paul under house arrest preaching the gospel to unsaved Jews, some of who came to believe while others did not. Yes, most were dull of hearing and stubborn etc...but also we need to take into account the mystery that Paul wrote about in Romans 11. I don't see how Acts 28 applies to the book of Hebrews though, in proving who it is addressing.

These are scriptures that I particularly noticed from my own study that show this epistle is addressing believers, not unbelievers, if you don't mind me pointing them out:

Heb 3:1

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Heb 3:12-14

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
(non-believers can't depart from what they never had so it must be addressing believers)

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

Heb 4:2-3

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (“them” is talking about unbelieving Jews, as opposed to “us” and “we” who believe....which means the recipients of the letter are believers, not unbelievers.)

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Heb 4:14

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. (unbelievers don’t have a profession of faith, so here again we see the letter is addressed to believers)

Heb 5:12

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

(addressing those who had known Christ long enough that they ought to be teachers in the body of Christ....and one doesn’t expect unbelievers to be teachers in the church)

Heb 6:1-2

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

(again, this could not have been addressed to those who don’t even know Jesus and the foundation of the faith)

Heb 6:9-11

But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

(again, it’s clear this is talking to believers not unbelievers)

Heb 6:18

That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

(talking to believers...unbelievers have not fled for refuge in Christ)

Heb 13:19

But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

(would the writer of this epistle be hoping to be restored to a group of UNbelievers? That wouldn’t make sense, so again this must be addressing believers.)

Heb 13:22-24

And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.

Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

(Wouldn’t make sense here either, that this would have been written to UN-believers. Believers don’t exhort unbelievers, and believing “church leaders” don’t have any spiritual authority/rule over unbelievers. And the author plainly states that the letter was written for the purpose of exorting.)

Here in a separate post, (because it’s so long), I’ll try to show a consistent theme that I see in the book of Hebrews, that of exhorting and encouraging and strengthening the Jewish brethren to stay in the race and not fall back or fall away, because apparently some were, and to me it comes across that this may be primary reason for the letter.

Heb 2:1-3

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Heb 3:6

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Heb 3:12-14

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

Heb 6:4-6

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Heb 10:23-24

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised) ;

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Heb 10:35-36

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Heb 10:38-39

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
