Why is it so necessary for anti-Catholics to make up lies and falsehoods and slanderous vitriol??? Do Catholics do that to you??? Do you really think you are doing God a favor by attacking Catholics with such arrogant bigotry??? Grow up and get out of your fundie ghetto.

Your cheap insults only serves to affirm my faith, of all the churches in the world, the Catholic Church is the most persecuted.
A smart person would consider that when looking for a real church. We see anti-Catholicism in our whole culture, from governments, the entertainment industry, and forums like this one where threads get contaminated by ignorance and prejudice. You are just on the anti-Catholic band wagon joined in with the rest of our culture. Chances are you live in the south.

The New Anti-Catholicism: The Last Acceptable Prejudice
Anti-Catholicism has a long history in America. And as Philip Jenkins argues in The New Anti-Catholicism, this virulent strain of hatred―once thought dead―is alive and well in our nation, but few people seem to notice, or care. A statement that is seen as racist, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, or homophobic can haunt a speaker for years, writes Jenkins, but it is still possible to make hostile and vituperative public statements about Roman Catholicism without fear of serious repercussions. Jenkins shines a light on anti-Catholic sentiment in American society and illuminates its causes, looking closely at gay and feminist anti-Catholicism, anti-Catholic rhetoric and imagery in the media, and the anti-Catholicism of the academic world. For newspapers and newsmagazines, for television news and in movies, for major book publishers, the Catholic Church has come to provide a grossly stereotyped public villain. Catholic opinions, doctrines, and individual leaders are frequently the butt of harsh satire. Indeed, the notion that the church is a deadly enemy of women―the idea of Catholic misogyny―is commonly accepted in the news media and in popular culture, says Jenkins...

Fortunately for you, "moderator discretion" means you can even compose vile anti-Catholic thread titles (that makes a mockery of the rules) and get away with it. Go ahead and make your case against Catholicism, but do it on scriptural grounds, not false 18th century philosophies that have been refuted a million times. You guys talk a lot about end-time persecution while you inflict it on Catholics. Give us the right to explain ourselves, the same right you give to yourself. And try not to be so insulting.
Great post illuminator

Jesus said His disciples would be known by the love they had for each other.

John said if we don't have love, we do not know God.

Nuff said.
Have a joyous Easter

To be a Catholic, you have a pledge allegiance with your heart, soul, mind, body, and earthly funds to the Pope in Rome. Then, it's rituals and vane repetitions of "prayers" to people like the "saints". If you want to really blow your mind, read the Bible and take it seriously, then pray a true heart and soulfelt prayer to Jesus. Go directly to the Cross of Christ and not through a middle man. Jesus said, don't call any Good but God. Don't call any father, but your Father in heaven. Don't call any teacher, except your one and only teacher, Jesus.

It's not all their fault. The process for most anti-Catholic prejudice is a matter of socialization. The process is similar to the process leading to racism. Forums can't heal prejudice, but the Holy Spirit can! As attested by thousands of converts:

Thanks for all the links I.
I can't really call myself Catholic although I attend the C church and have a few C priests as friends.
They know I can't accept all the doctrine but they don't care. Long story.

I'm horrified at how some treat their brothers in Christ. Jesus taught love and our responsibility toward God. I see the opposite many times from Protestants. I wonder if they really know our Lord.

It's pretty dumb to call the CC a cult if we wouldn't even be here if it weren't for that church.
It did get lost at a certain point, but maybe we could start to forgive?

It's different today and we should respect the change it's made and discuss with love.

Some of my friends here that give likes to your opponents should really not be encouraging them.

A joyous Easter to all of you!

Hope your OK Amadeus.
Don't have much time these days.
:(

All Christians are Catholic in fact !
The Church of England is Catholic in fact.
The Lutheran Church is Catholic in fact.
Even the church of Roman is Catholic in fact.

So they all claim to be Catholic, every Church makes such a claim that I know of !

Can anyone provide me of a list of they who claim to be Christian Churches that claim they are not Catholic.

What’s new on my Twitter / X feed this evening? This, from a Roman Catholic:

“Satan is most intimidated when you pray to Mary.

In fact, Satan hates Mary more than he hates Jesus Christ Himself.
And Satan hates it when you pray to Mary.”

She goes on to say that this is not an official teaching of the Church. I take it then that this is nothing more than her opinion. Still, if I had thoughts of becoming a Catholic, this would be an impediment.

JW's are not really considered to be Christian because they do not believe Jesus is God.

Catholics believe Jesus is God and are very united in their beliefs although there will be some dissension in some ways that are not major. Catholics are Christian.

Protestants are also Christian because they also believe Jesus is God.
However, in Protestantism, you'll find many denominations and each one will be slightly different. But they all believe Jesus died for our sins, that we are saved through Him, that He resurrected on the third day and that we are to follow Him.
Catholics also believe this.

Protestants do not believe the bread and wine turns into the literal body and blood of Jesus.
They believe in asking God directly for forgiveness of sins.
They differ on eternal security: Some believe salvation can be lost by abandoning God and others believe it's impossible to leave God once you know Him.

With Christians, blood transfusions are fine, doctors are fine, if you decide to leave a church you are not ostracized because of it and your family does not have to disown you. I'd say that Christianity is freer than the Witnesses --- they practice a very legal religion.

Much to look into to...take your time.
Read the N.T. too, before you formally study it...
Actually, It gets much worse. Jws do not believe that Jesus' sacrifice was for our sins. They believe that when they physically die that they are paying for their own sins. They teach that Jesus died only for Adam's orginal sin.
Where do they get that? good Q! The only verses ever quoted for it are Romans 6:7 and 23. In context they dont mean anything close to what they teach.

That kind of thinking is an inevitable result of the over inflated devotion given to Mary by the church. It borders on idolatry, and in many cases, and in many minds, is well over the border and is an ensconced citizen of darkness.

Did you mean to revive a 2 year old zombie thread?

Did you mean to revive a 2 year old zombie thread?

No and yes.

No - I meant to start a new thread.

Yes - When I started to start a new thread, “Is this already being discussed?“ popped up. I paused, which caused me to think, If I wanted to become a Catholic this would cause me to pause.

Several people made comments - and not just on my post - so resurrecting the thread brought it back to life, which is a theme that is never far from my mind: restoration.

Maybe - Now that was a possible reply to your question, and my first inclination, but if I had said that it would have conveyed the idea that I didn’t know what I meant to do. I didn’t want to give you and our readers that impression, so a “maybe” answer would have called for an explanation. Thinking about that took me to no and yes, but if I had left it at that you wouldn’t have been aware of how much thought I put into answering your question. I weighed the importance of making or not making you aware of it and decided that, in the big scheme of things, it probably doesn’t really matter. I wrote it down to help me think through it and that tuckered me out to such an extent that I didn’t have the energy to erase it. I rested for a minute to gather my strength to complete the arduous task ... and while I was resting that set me to thinking about it all over again. The last thing I thunk was what a waste it would be to spend time erasing that which I had thought to write down.

Having rested and renewed (there’s that restoration theme again that I mentioned to you earlier) the weary bones in my typing finger, I’ll end now with a simple answer to your question:

Yes, I meant to revive a 2 year old thread.*

* In hindsight, I probably should have just given you my simple answer to your question to begin with. But there it is.

Definitly not a teaching of the CC.
But makes her a citizen of darkness???!
I think it takes following satan to be a citizen of darkness....

I am aware the church does not teach idolatry. Yet it does practise it. Graven images abound. I know, I was there for many years. I have witnessed the intense devotion of Catholics to Mary, surpassing even the devotions of many to their football teams etc which is blatant idolatry. And worse, surpassing their devotions to Jesus. Anything exalted above Christ and the Father is an idol. Even self.

How does one practice idolatry if they don't teach it?

A graven image mans you WORSHIP THE IMAGE.
There are no images in the CC that are WORSHIPPED.

I don't really see anyone praying, kneeling at a stature anymore like years ago when I was growing up - and probably you also.
But the person wasn't praying TO the stature...it was a representation of some saint or Mary.....which, I do believe praying to saints is wrong.

Imagine the golden calf that was being worshipped when Moses came back down Mount Sinai with the 10 commandments.
Do you REALLY believe Catholics are doing the same as the Israelites were? THAT is idolatry. They were celebrating THE CALF.....not something it represented.

1719572128322.png

And you should get with the program....
Catholics teach some doctrine about Mary and we may agree with them or disagree with them....
But for salvation they teach Jesus,,,just like we do.
When I go to Mass I hear JESUS, not Mary.

Twitter / X brings me this today:

”Pray in Latin. Demons HATE Latin”

It isn’t the language that demons hate, it’s the content of a / any language that demons hate.

There are many things which should be taken into account when someone is contemplating becoming a Catholic. If I were contemplating it, this would be another pause moment: Jesus didn’t pray in Latin.

Twitter / X doesn’t want me to sleep peacefully tonight.

“The Bible is based on Catholicism.”

If I wanted to become a Catholic, I’d have to think hard about that assertion. Let’s ruminate on it.

How many of the jewish leaders were claiming to be following MOSES , torah , the law , THE ONE TRUE GOD .
THEY ALL WERE . yet not all were .
Just cause we cliam to do something that dont mean we do it .
Just cause folks can claim to believe IN JESUS , dont mean the jesus they follow is not another jesus .
The Leaders of the jews had become false leaders .
And they often taught as the worship of GOD the precpets of men .
We better watch out my friend .
A lot of folks do that now within christendom .
AND how does one follow satan
How does one follow GOD .
Through the flesh we worship satan
through the spirit we worship GOD in spirit and truth .
MANY walk after the flesh my freind . they embrace sin , justify their own sins and the sins o others .
YET they all say we love GOD , we love HIS CHRIST .
WHO WE LOVE is WHO WE OBEY and WHO WE OBEY IS WHOSE we are .
And as i wrote afore if one does err , the pattern is confess and repent of it . DO NOT try and justify it .
