Hi,
I wanted to know if you were like Jonah, where God told you to do something but you didn't obey, but you also didn't sin but you just didn't obey God's directions, would you still be going to Heaven??? If Jonah didn't repent, he will be cursed I guess and not live, will he still be going to heaven? Thank you for those of you who know the answer. I hope I get the right answer here.
You cannot... use that situation about Jonah, simply because with God forcing... Jonah to do the duty He gave him, reveals that Jonah was an elect of God. What does being one of God's elect mean?
It means one of God's elect is already owned... by God. So He can do whatever with them that He wants. If they get out of line, He will bring them back... in line per His Will.
Lord Jesus hinted at this in the John 17 Chapter when speaking of the difference between His Apostles, which Jesus said originally belonged to The Father, but that The Father gave to them to Jesus, and that they like Jesus were not of... this world. Jesus showed ownership of His Apostles.
Same with Apostle Paul or Saul before Jesus converted him on the road to Damascus (Acts 9). Saul was in the very act of hunting down Christians to bring them in chains back to Jerusalem for trial by the Pharisees. Paul himself at that time was a Pharisee. But Jesus intervened divinely with Saul, striking Saul blind while speaking directly to him and no one else, removing any doubt about Lord Jesus as The Christ. That is a sign of Jesus' ownership of Paul.
Likewise, Lord Jesus when appearing to His Apostles, went up to them and commanded them to follow Him. They got up and followed, no questions asked. That was because Jesus already 'owned' them.
What about the rest of us who have believed on Jesus Christ? The majority of believers are not Apostles, not chosen 'sent ones' (the meaning of the word apostle), but called only. Those like God's elect are both called and... chosen. And Jesus did say that many are called, but few are chosen. When we who are called choose to believe on Jesus Christ as The Savior, and then remain faithful in Christ to the end, then we are considered also part of God's elect. Only if we become 'reprobate' by falling away from Christ are we cut off. But God's chosen elect sent ones, like Christ's Apostles, can never fall away nor be cut off, simply because Jesus already owns them.
