How does one divide “soul and spirit” if they believe that they are one and the same thing?
I never said they were the same. The body is the hardware. The soul is the software. The electricity in us is the animating Spirit.

How does one divide “soul and spirit” if they believe that they are one and the same thing?
That might be the way you explain it....but how does the Bible explain it? I though it was the Bible that gave us our beliefs?I never said they were the same. The body is the hardware. The soul is the software. The electricity in us is the animating Spirit.
The Bible tells the story...its not my story.seems you have it all cut and tucked AJ!
What a photo! :)I'd like to read up on things a little more first... but I'm sure you can handle the suspense.

AJ is a fervent JW.Really? Lol
Good to see you too man. Hope you are well.
Are you a sadducee or a nonbeliever? 1 Corinthians 15:32
You need to understand what it means to be a Christian.Neither....I am a Bible believing Christian. And the Bible does not teach that we have an immortal part of us that departs from the body at death. That was adopted later from Greek influence.
It teaches resurrection....did you not know that there is a difference? That does not mean a continuation of life as soon as we die, but a restoration of life as experienced by Jesus’ friend Lazarus. (John 11:11-14)
Where was Lazarus before Jesus brought him back to life? If he was in a better place, then why would Jesus bring him back to this life only to die again in the future?
1 Corinthians 15:32 is talking about the resurrection, which for the “elect” was not to take place until Christ’s return.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17...
“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do , who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead, so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. For we say this to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who remain, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” (NASB)
Read Paul’s words carefully here because he gives us the time of the “first resurrection” which is only for the elect. (Revelation 20:6) The general resurrection takes place later when Jesus and his elect bring the blessings of the Kingdom to faithful earthly subjects. (John 5:28-29; Revelation 21:3-4)
I am saying that the person is the soul with everything that make him/her unique. A soul is a “breather”....man or animal. Once breathing stops, the soul dies. (Ezekiel 18:4)Are you saying there's no difference between the physical body and the soul?
What makes you believe that you are one? How much of the Bible have you actually studied, Cooper? You need to understand what it means to be a Christian.
.
I said, "You need to understand what it means to be a Christian."What makes you believe that you are one? How much of the Bible have you actually studied, Cooper?
I believe when we die we are ushered into the presence of God. Here is my reasoning as to why there is no "soul sleep" upon death.
Absent the body, present with the Lord. (Apostle Paul) 2 Corinthians 5:8
Nope, not even close.....Okay AJ. What your saying is. Our body will be resurrected and so will our spirit... but our soul dies forever. Is that what your saying?
Nope, not even close.....
When God created Adam, it was his intention for mankind to “fill the earth and subdue it”, which was a task with no real end, because there was no death mentioned to them except as a penalty for disobedience. Humankind were to be the caretakers of God’s creation, given his qualities and intelligence in order to carry out that assignment forever. There was a “tree of life” there in the garden which gave those partaking of it the ability to live forever. So man was not created to die....he has no ‘program’ for death...it is as foreign to him today as it ever was.....
When humans were persuaded by the devil to disobey God’s command, he lied about the penalty, stating that they would not die, but God stated that they would.....someone was lying, and we know it wasn’t God....
Genesis 3:17-19.....
“And to Adam he said: “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and ate from the tree concerning which I gave you this command, ‘You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground on your account. In pain you will eat its produce all the days of your life. 18 It will grow thorns and thistles for you, and you must eat the vegetation of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.”
God mentioned no afterlife of any description because death meant the cessation of life, not a continuation of it. The devil invented that concept to promote his lie.....he knew that the humans would die because God doesn’t lie, but he did, to cover up his own lie.
Man is a “soul”.....a living, breathing creature, part of the rest of mortal creation, except that humans alone had access to a means to perpetuate their lives indefinitely.....there would be no sickness, no suffering, no pain, no ageing....nothing that would rob them of the life God gave them, except disobedience.
So because the body houses the brain, it is the center of human consciousness and when brain death occurs, the soul that is that person dies. His spirit is the “breath” within his lungs kept going by the breathing process started at birth. We take our first breath when we are born, and our last one when we die.
It is difficult to imagine ourselves out of existence because we are actually programmed to go on living. But where were you and I before we were born? We simply did not exist....we came into existence when a conception occurred in our mother’s womb.....a true miracle of life, so disrespected by the conduct of those who do not share the shame that Adam and his wife first felt when they came into possession of a knowledge of evil.
What is resurrected is “us”....everything that we once were will be restored....we will again become a “soul” with the “spirit” or breath of life restored and with all our memories intact. Like Lazarus, we will have no memory of being anywhere else because death is just a peaceful sleep. The dead are safe with God because Jesus sacrifice has guaranteed them a resurrection.
We are the whole package....there are no separate parts of us to go anywhere. “We” sleep and Jesus awakens “us”. It’s not more complicated than that. (John 5:28-29) If there is no conscious entity to depart, then there is no reason to invent places for them to go. They are not watching over us or being alarmed or upset about the things happening to us. They are just asleep. I personally found that very comforting.
I Agree Good Post!I believe when we die we are ushered into the presence of God. Here is my reasoning as to why there is no "soul sleep" upon death.
Absent the body, present with the Lord. (Apostle Paul) 2 Corinthians 5:8
It is appointed for men to die, then comes the judgment. Hebrews 9:27
Today you will be with me in paradise. (Jesus to the thief on the cross)
The beheaded saints under the altar of God pleading with Him to avenge them. They are not in soul sleep. (Revelation 6:10)
The story of the rich man and Lazarus. They were conscious after death. Perhaps this parable should not be taken literally, mind, I'm just throwing it out there.
What do you think? Please use scripture to justify your position. God bless!
You espouse doctrine of the Jehovah's Witnesses, False In My OpinionNope, not even close.....

Your “one God” can pray to himself, and he can be in three places at once.....sorry not the same at all....You say: "We are the whole package....there are no separate parts of us to go anywhere. “
That is how it is with the One God in heaven and on earth.
