Hi selene!
I think that what James describes and what is considered to be religion in the world today...are not the same thing.You forgot to add the other part of the verse you are quoting:
James 1:27
26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
Even the Pharasees were considered "religious."
Acts 26:5
They knew me from the first, if they were willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.
Yet Paul himself considered his religion as worthless
Philippians 3
If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
and so did Jesus
Matthew 5
20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

The above quote from WS is a good example of a "religious spirit" that Jesus speaks of in Matt 5.You contradicted what I shared and you contradict the spirit of God in your post when you did so. Everything I shared is exactly true. You have no idea what spirit you are then. You evidently still lust. that doesn't mean others do. You evidently still sin. that doesn't mean others do. By their fruits ye shall know them... What fruit have you just demonstrated here? If I were you Selene, I'd repent before Christ and go and sin no more.
Be Blessed!!! :)
