The Book of Revelation mentions 'Babylon' again involving prophetic events for the very end of this present world (i.e., Rev.14:8; Rev.16:19; Rev.17:5; Rev.18:2; and Rev.18:4 tells those in Christ to come out of her.)
History about the ancient kingdom of Sumer-Babylon was where the first original idol worship began, with a Semite that appeared among the Sumerians, they called Sargon (I). So ancient Babylon is where the first elements of Baal idol worship began, and migrated to other ancient nations, including eventually to the western nations before Christ came.
The word Babylon itself is derived from the word 'babel', which means 'confusion'. It simply points to ideas opposite of God's Plan of Salvation, and we well know who the author of that is, the devil himself.
In Revelation 17, Christ warns about "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." He also uses the symbols for it representing a 'woman' as a 'whore', who sits upon many waters, and she has seven heads, and ten horns. She is shown arrayed in royal purple, and decked with jewels and gold.
Many have come up with all sorts of crazy ideas on the supposed identity of that Babylon Harlot for the end of this world, when all they needed to do is STAY... with the written Scripture about that symbolic "woman" given in the very last verse of Revelation 17...

Jerusalem for the end of this world is what the MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, harlot is pointing to.
Why would Christ point to Jerusalem as the HARLOT? It will be because that is where the 'beast' is going to setup his headquarters at the end of this world just prior to Christ's future return.
The Jews of course don't like Jerusalem being referred to like that, especially the Orthodox unbelieving Jews, since they are trying to claim that today's nation of Israel is evidence that God is in process of the prophesied restoration of Israel, when it is not. Instead, today's Israel is being prepared to receive the coming false-Messiah who comes first per Lord Jesus' warning.
Some instead try to point to the Catholic Church as that Babylon Harlot of Revelation, and a pope as the final Antichrist. That idea is false though, and is only designed to get you off track of what the Scripture actually says as written. That is why those country preachers who don't study all their Bible don't know to read the Ezekiel 16 Chapter where God called Jerusalem that had fallen into idol worship as a 'harlot'.
