The below passage testify HOW one receives the promise of the Spirit by trusting Christ Jesus in placing your faith in Jesus Christ to be saved.

The passage below testifies WHEN one receives the sanctification of the Spirit and the belief of the truth by the hearing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. So basically, the moment you believed in the gospel heard, you have received the sanctification of the Spirit.

The passage below testifies how just having faith in Jesus Christ pleases God in showing how easy it is to be saved so that there is no need for a believer to look for a sign from the Holy Spirit that they are saved.

What about the laying on of hands?

Isn't there some verse that says that People had believed in Jesus but had not received the Holy Spirit! I am thinking that it was the Apostle Paul and the people said they had not even heard their was a Holy Spirit and then he laid hands on them, or something like that?
Also you should know that many people up here believe in a second work of grace! Their are also people up here that believe in Spiritual gifts! You should listen to what they have to say. If God has not showed you personally you should be very careful about teaching things you really don't know about. I really appreciate your zeal but I really think you need to be careful bc the teachers will receive the stricter judgement.

I am sorry for seeming to come up against what you are saying as you are a well meaning and sweet person, but I am afraid for you bc i think you need to be careful about grouping people who are wrong with others. i would be afraid to assign the work of the Holy Spirit to the Devil. I am afraid that might be the worst sin. Love you brother just a little worried for you. If I am totally wrong someone should tell me.

Salvation is NOT baptism. The sooner one recognizes that the sooner one will be filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:7 is very clear to those who will listen.

the verse you are looking for is acts 19:3. jesus is faithful is correct concerning the indwelling of the Holy Spirit comes at the time of salvation. the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is God's way of saying we are now His. but the power of the Holy Spirit which you are referring to i believe comes with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. the baptism of the Holy Spirit is necessary for anyone who wants to live a victorious lifestyle. the baptism of the Holy Spirit gives us access to the spiritual gifts like signs, miracles, and wonders of the gospel. well i have to go and i will finish later if necessary.

Keep in mind that this was not done all the time for believers to receive the promise of the Spirit by faith in Jesus Christ.

You are talking about two incidents.



The one with Paul was Acts 19:1-7 Paul had come across some people that were disciples, but did not know what kind.

Acts 19:1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

And so Paul had asked the following question;

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.


So this makes Paul doubt them to be disciples of Jesus Christ; and so he had asked another question.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

So now Paul knows what kind of disciples they were; they were disciples of John the Baptist's. Paul then went on to explain the Good News of Jesus Christ was Whom John the Baptist was preparing the way for.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

So now these particular disciples of John the Baptist's heard the truth about Jesus Christ.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.

So then these disciples of John the Baptist's became believers in Jesus Christ and got water baptized in His name, and at that time, they had received the promise of the Holy Ghost.

The other incident is Acts 8:5-25 which was a tricky situation. The Lord Jesus Christ was casting out unclean spirits through Philip and so got a following because of it.

Acts 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city. 9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: 10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. 12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
The people believed the things about what Philip was preaching but he was in their spotlight and not Jesus, and so the people's heart was not quite right with the Lord.. Certainly, Simon's heart wasn't. Simon was seeking some more power that he could have that may be obtainable like his scorcery was. 14Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. 23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. 24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. 25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

As the people's heart & respect shifted from Simon the scorceror to Philip, it was necessary for someone else to come in and lay hands on them for three reasons. #1. To avoid anyone from thinking Simon the scorceror was doing this #2. To decrease Philip in the eyes & hearts of the people so that Christ Jesus may increase. #3. To address Simon's heart which was not quite right with the Lord. Some believers may find Simon as despicable for him thinking he can but that power of imparting the Holy Ghost unto others, but God loved him to make sure he came to Jesus Christ in the right way by looking at Jesus and not at the miracles. So that was the problem here; not only Simon's but the hearts & sights of the people's were fixated on Philip seemingly doing the miracles and not on Jesus. They believed the things Philip preached about, but his following was one of appreciation and wonder as the people were being delivered from unclean spirits that were plaguing the region. God sent others to lift their sights higher; to believe in Him as He is the One baptizing them with the Holy Ghost for believing in Him..

I'm sorry, truly I'm not meaning to be rude. I'm new at this computer thing! I just think that the Church should be striving to look more like Jesus. Trying to be a mirror image of Him. Jesus daily cast out demons, healed the sick and prophesied. This is what He went around doing. Who He is if you will. If the Church is going to say she follows Him, shouldn't she look more like Him? I pray for forgiveness if this thought hurts or offends anyone. I truly am not trying to be rude.
