Proverbs 13:12 Lexicon: Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

This verse has been quietly resting in my mind for days “when the desire comes, it is a tree of Life.” What is Hope deferred makes the inward man, the heart, sick.
(they will no longer say “I am sick.”)

what it speaks of to me is: “when the Will comes, it is a tree of Life.

Proverbs 13:12-15 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. [13] Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. [14] The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. [15] Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

[15] Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

And the Tree of Life is Jesus! This is the Hope set before men, but how does one enter in...? Jesus is also the flaming sword guarding the entrance to the Garden wherein is that Tree of Life. In order to approach the Tree and eat thereof, we must pass through that sword put there to prevent us.

"So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." Gen 3:24

It starts with him and it ends with Him!

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." Rev 22:13

Only hope is seen for most in the OT but then Jesus came bringing a Way to Life, He himself being the Life!

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

A Way has been prepared for us and it is Jesus Himself, the Life!

The Way is to overcome so that we may eat of Him, the Tree of Life!

Re 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

To eat of the Tree of Life, we must lean upon and go through the Tree of Life. The flaming sword was placed there and the Way was closed until the veil was rent... Jesus was the veil covering up the Way into the Holiest of Holies. He was the flaming sword, but then...

"And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom." Mark 15:37-38

But the Way was open... but who is able to enter in and to partake? Many certainly are called..?

"And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
For many are called, but few are chosen." Matt 22:11-14

What is this wedding garment? Perhaps here...?

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:" Eph 6:13-17

And then eat..., no?

"Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever." John 6:53-58

And the Tree of Life is Jesus! This is the Hope set before men,

Still focused on, why it means so much to me. (Just an opinion but wow does it give me Hope)

Proverbs 13:11-13 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

Consider when He said: Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

12] Hope deferred maketh the heart sick:

Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, [2] Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

Agree. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Why it stands out so much (Imo) is: the desire to do His Will. When that desire comes, it is a tree of Life. Consider when the Will comes to do His Will, it is a Tree of Life
Luke 22:42-43 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. [43] And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

(Ephesians 1:9-11)who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

(Colossians 1:9-11) many others...Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. John 15:8-9 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. [9] As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Addressing the OP, GREAT, good work.

if you don't mind, I would like to quote it in the KJV,
Proverbs 13:12 "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life."

Proverbs 13:19 "The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil."

Proverbs 11:30 "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." NOW one more,

Romans 14:17 "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."

something to chew on.
as always...... good spiritual eyes. keep up the good work.

I don't believe that this adage has any more meaning than simply that there are occurrences in life, often out of our control, that cause disheartening and debilitation, and equally, there are results in life that lead to our encouragement and enthusiasm.
Of course, I believe that it has a deeper meaning in regard to what it is that one is desiring. Either the measure of hope or discouragement, will be commensurate to the depth or principle behind the desire. Not being able to eat your favorite meal for one night or two, should not cause much despondency, but not being able to eat for several days should. A better example is hoping for justice to be exacted, so that depending on the outcome or its timing, can cause either great consternation, or a feeling of revival and resuscitation (tree of life).

@VictoryinJesus, here is some more fruit to chew on, Hosea 10:12 "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you."
Hosea 10:13 "Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men."

Proverbs 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."

Random questions but Revelation 22:1-4 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding (coming) out of the throne of God and of (for, because of? Abide in Me and bear fruit) the Lamb. [2] In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing (restoration) of the nations. [3] And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: [4] And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

get everyone sees those fruits as different BUT if those fruits are the Fruit of the Spirit....peace, love, joy, long-suffering, patience...when are those fruits of the Spirit of God tasted? Apples and oranges and pomegranate literally to eat would have to be only when a literal tree of Life bears those fruits (apples and oranges)to taste. BUT peace, love, joy, long-suffering, patience...taste and see that God is Good!?

@VictoryinJesus, here is some more fruit to chew on, Hosea 10:12 "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you."

Many verses...maybe too many but concerning “reap mercy”: God is mocked. whatever is sown, you will reap. Not to get off topic but was looking at those things which come up out of the pit in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Revelation 9:17-19 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. [18] By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. [19] For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.

For their power is in their mouth...by fire, by smoke, by brimstone ...is that not death and hell?
by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. [19] For their power is in their mouth...
Proverbs 18:20-21 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. [21] Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

for their power is in their mouth:
That which cometh out from God, issued out from the throne of God, coming out from God:
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

1 Peter 3:8-12 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: [9] Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. [10] For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: [11] Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. [12] For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Proverbs 11:17-19 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. [18] The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. [19] As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

Hosea 10:12 "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you."
Warned it was many verses.
Matthew 5:44-45 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Concerning fruit ...with fruit there are seasons? “Fruitful seasons” when fruit (not looking for apples and oranges) is borne. Acts 14:17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven,Hosea 10:12 and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Philemon 1:9-17 Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. [10] I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: [11] Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: [12] Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: [13] Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: [14] But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. [15] For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; [16] Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? [17] If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

2 Corinthians 7:6-11 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; [7] And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more. [8] For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season. [9] Now I rejoice,(in that you bear fruit) not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. [10] For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. [11] For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

1 Peter 1:6-8 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: [7] That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: [8] Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
