So you want God to do everything for you?
"O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." Jerem 10:23

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Rom 8:14

When we are babies, everything must be done for us. I don't think the Lord intends for us to revert to that.

What if the Lord taught us to fend for ourselves?
When God placed Adam in Eden, He taught mankind a lesson. The provision is from God (which means you do not fend for yourself), but the stewardship is our responsibility (whosoever will not work let him not eat). Thus the NT teaches Christians to be good stewards.

What is really amazing is how God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness for forty years. God was literally and visibly present as the pillar of cloud and fire. But their constant complaining simply brought them grief. And it also brought Moses and Aaron grief.

We're still supposed to walk with him (pray constantly), but I don't think we want him doing everything for us.
Of course He does not do everything for us, and neither does He expect us to have this false idea. When Moses had a rod in his hand, what did God command him to do? Use it! On the other hand since Jericho was a strongly fortified city, it took divine intervention to destroy its walls. But when Nehemiah had to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, absolutely every man was required to do his job.

It might depend on what you mean by "fend for yourself." I don't think we are meant to revert to what we were as babies, where we can do nothing for ourselves.

They had no faith, and we know we cannot please Him without it.
Hebrews 11:6
6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

That my friend is where the new Christian begins. We are not to stay there!

"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Matt 18:3

Then led by the Spirit if we he follows carefully and faithfully, not quenching the Spirit, we grow becoming more like the Lord along the way... moving from milk to meat.

"And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able." I Cor 3:1-2

"when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." Heb 5:12-14
