What I meant by "getting it right" is that Joe Biden has been stating repeatedly that it is Putin's intent to invade. He personally has been banging the war drums and parading out high ranking members of the military to agree with his assessment. I never knew he was such a war monger, but I've known for a while that he's a practiced liar, a self righteous and arrogant man, and prone to use American military and economic power to coerce other nations.

Oh yea, of course. I've been watching Tucker Carlson, who very much hates adventuristic wars and saber-rattling. He says the people of America are disinterested in sending their sons off to die in foreign wars, and he would be right. However, we can't underestimate the power of idealism and political ideology when sold on the market as media propaganda. It's actually done a good job selling it to me, as well, until I realize I've been had!

To be honest, I do believe in a measure of "internationalism." My own family came from around the world--half were Finns and half were Germans. My Grandfather is from the Ukraine, speaking German. My other Grandfather is from Finland, speaking Swedish. So I can't help but believe there is a better political ideology for the world. If Communism is going to throw itself out there, I suppose I have to have a comeback? So trying to spread Democracy doesn't seem like a bad idea on its face.

But it's the same problem we had with Colonialism. How much of it was truly "Christian" and how much purely self-interest? I think you know the answer?

I endeavor to be in the world, but not of it, a believer in "citizenship" and it's responsibility, while holding to the notion that I remain a pilgrim or sojourner in the world.

Nationalism is derived from nation, common people sharing common origin and history, frequently common blood. Such allegiance is both natural and biblical, but governments are transitory by nature and don't define people. They never did, but with one notable exception and that isn't the USA.

However, I thought of myself as a patriot when young, served in the USAF, and took an oath before God in the process. In retrospect, the oath seems like a mistake because of its binding nature. I don't like the idea of breaking my word as witnessed before God, and it stands as a worldly complication in a time where government opposes faith and increasingly opposes biblical faith.

I guess that if you're going to be caught "between a rock and a hard place" its best if that rock is Jesus Christ. Time will tell.

That is a fantastic post, and I mean that! I think citizenship and serving in the military could legitimately express a Christian conviction since the US used to be more Christian, as did many of the nations of Europe. But we're going backwards into paganism, which is exactly what began to happen in the Renaissance. It was a new birth not into Christianity but into a hybrid of Christianity and paganism.

If we go back to paganism we're back where the Early Church was in pagan Rome. And they didn't choose to serve in the military either because many of the wars were flat out ungodly. But a person needs to be led himself, because God may still want to use people in politics and in the military. In fact, I'm sure He does.

Again, thanks for a simple statement, but a brilliantly-said one! I want to hang that on my wall! :)

Sometimes I probably think too much, but I'm happy to offer anything of worth to a conversation. God bless you brother and like the old native American in the Josey Wales film, let's continue to endeavor to persevere.
