Today I have been playing a CD of old hymns; sometimes just listening and sometime singing along. I have really missed singing these old hymns, many of them familiar since my childhood, and I have been blessed. There are so many treasures and truths in their verses and I have have rejoiced with tears of joy and my spirit has been lifted up.

May I suggest that you meditate on those hymns, that you also look for modern versions of those hymns and compare them.
There is masses of theology in those hymns and sometimes a quite word to the preacher that such and such a hymn would have really complimented the sermon or a later email with a link can drip feed old ideas to ministers who have forgotten their hymnology.

I've often said that when the Hymn books were removed, that the end times started. The doctrinal statement in the Hymns caused many preachers to stay on message. I was a Music minister for a little while and played Hymns that matched the Pastors sermon. They don't do that anymore, They play top 40 Christian songs. They now wonder why people leave the church. The Hymn book and the Bible are part of worship service.

Matthew 26: 29-30 -
But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

The old traditional hymns were easier to sing and their words stay longer in the mind and are easier to remember than the most of the modern ones of today. The new ones seem mostly to be inspired by anything other than the Holy Spirit and are absolutely no good for congregational singing although they might be nice to listen to at home.

God sent me to my last church and every chance I had I told them that. They played "let me tell you about my Jesus". I started telling choir members just because it mentions Jesus doesn't make it a church song.
